I too like the idea of having a VP to protect against the 'drip' though it's still a gamble. How about 75% PP and 25% VP? I mostly like the VP for a 500 index, maybe a few shares of BP, but still reasonable, no? Just a little side wager in investments with a proven track record. A 75/25 Browne-Bogle strategy if you will.
