looking into berkshire class b for monday .....

i think up or down berkshire is situated to take advantage of things if they get worse and berkshire's poor choices have already taken its toll on the share price so it is down far more than say the s&p 500.... those billions can snatch up lots of companies if things get worse here so it is like a hedge .

this may be an example of a stock selling at a discount unlike most which are priced low because their business fell off.

this would be a longer hold as buying berkshire is really like buying a small mutual fund

MJ,

I noted you clarified your portfolio values saying all 4 parts had 7 digits. Tech asked clarification and you confirmed that, yes, each part had 7 digits to the left of the decimal point.

If we channel Wayne's World-

oops , no i am up to 800k in each part ..i thought he meant in total was it 7 digits . .....

i could go 7 digits in each but i think with the fact so many are jumping in to tlt and gld at this point i wouldn't commit anymore unless we roll back .

in fact just the opposite i want to trim a bit back after a run up like this and me breaking new all time highs in net worth despite being retired and drawing 6 figures a year for more than 5 years now .

we closed out our real estate LLC months ago and sold the remaining holdings to an investor group .so i threw it in the pp as the safest bet .

the pp is the only model i have been running .... we can easily see a depression as well as see a very weak dollar and inflation ... it is really uncharted waters here . i have not even been trading gld and tlt ... it has been pretty much straight up so if anything i was migrating money over from the other model i ran on the dips in tlt and gld . the other model which while 25% equities , does not have the lift of the pp ....

it was easy to migrate over since i could use the 25% equity position as it was .

it is never a good sign when so many on forums are buying those assets and never owned them before ......that has always been a red flag .

i wouldnt sell out but i would cut it back a bit ... then every time one asset falls bring it back up to the level of the ones that didnt fall.

that is how i migrated the money over ...

trimmed back a bit to 600k in each ....
still a substaintial investment in each with huge moves in gld and tlt daily .

i would still let it go up to 7 figures in each but not at near record levels on each asset ... it isn't even like one tanked so you come out about the same overall ....everything is pretty much at highs .

so the portfolio's were just about completed yesterday . i just did an instant xray

the permanent portfolio is a bit different as i tried to make it a little more relevant to today .

so we have :

276,343k in s&p 500 fund

275,190 split between TLT and LTPZ both bought the last 2 days after recently taking profits

275,224 in gld .

275k split between vtip and t-bill fund .

so that is it for the pp variation .

my more permanent model is:

316,141 in my long term hold fidelity contra

270,556 in a managed total bond fund

265,669 in a managed high income fund

371,997 in an ultra conservative managed bond fund

280,082 in a managed 1-3 year treasury fund

126,057 in dbc commodities fund .

i still have more cash to invest but i will keep that powder dry for now

Still holding mine although fairly confident (haha) this rally is attributed to short covering. Stocks and Bonds sold off going into the election setting the framework for this response.

Well sdow was sold at the close as markets rolled back a bit . Picked up a little profit in about 20 minutes time .sdow is a leveraged reverse acting etf ..

I sold off about 100k of my s&p 500 fund today and bought the dogs of the Dow .

They were actually down today ....they are the 10 highest yielding Dow stocks ....the is a strategy that has been around for decades .

Most years it outperformed the Dow .....the idea is the worst performers tend to be the highest yielding ..expectations for them are lowered and so they tend to do better than the Dow does .

You can also buy the pups of the Dow ...those are the five highest yielding dogs with the lowest prices

If anyone is interested I can post the lists.
