WSB-style YOLO

Post by Smith1776 »

Hi everyone,

I was thinking of throwing a small amount of net worth, about $5k, into a massively speculative bet on the markets. Keeping in spirit with the VP, this is money that I can "afford" to lose.

Does anyone have any specific suggestions for a highly speculative play? I am willing to lose all of the initial investment but don't want downside beyond the initial principal.

I've always been a conservative investor so this is new territory to me. I was thinking of doing call options. Any input would appreciated.

Thanks.

Something in biotech. Even if you lose maybe overall advancement will be made.

My initial thought was call options on something like Tesla.

On the chance Jeremy Grantham will be right sometime, maybe Emerging Markets Value? Like ETF AVES? Or just EM... VWO. That's mainstream risky, or old person risky, or something.

Oh, quick anti-climactic update: because I was laid off I can’t afford to throw anything into a VP right now so I have literally done nothing lol.

That's terrible, may the time to your next job be short!

Thanks!

Silver lining is that I got laid off just BEFORE I was about to do the YOLO-ing rather than after it lol!

I was hit in 2015 and 2018. Both times I had work within a month... just enough time to get one unemployment check those years. But it has lingering effects on your mental health... basically PTSD. I am so glad I have just 32 months until Medicare age and total, final retirement.
