Vanguard Solo 401 Downside
I've been the contribution to my solo 401k,and from what I understand I should be putting LTB in this tax deferred account. I'm currently doing that in my taxable directly through the bond desks. What are the downsides to using vanguards bonds as an alternative, or should I just move over to fidelity?
Re: Vanguard Solo 401 Downside
I don't know about Vanguard, but at Fidelity you can buy individual bonds in any account that you manage, i.e. where you have complete control over investment choices. Try buying a bond within the account and see what happens?
I'm not sure how simple it would be to "move over" to Fidelity...you'd have to open a new solo 401K at Fidelity. This isn't hard, but I'm not sure how it would work to have two active solo 401K accounts.

Don't know if this makes a difference to or not, Matthew19...
With Fidelity you can have a solo 401(k) but NOT a solo 401(k) Roth. Don't ask me why. I've been pleading with them for four years to make the solo 401(k) Roth an option.

No ETFs or Admiral shares in Vanguard's i401k
Re: Vanguard Solo 401 Downside
Thanks guys. With Vanguard you basically can't buy anything thats not a fund, with Fidelity you can't do electronic funding or Roth. Shafted.

Huh, didn't know about those Vanguard limitations. As far as electronic funding at Fidelity, you can get around the restriction by setting up a billpay from your bank. I called them to ask about transfers, and they walked me through the setup. Thank the IRS for making us go through this silly maneuver.
