UK Version of Permanent Portfolio

Post by Kera »

Hello,

I'm looking into running a PP here in the UK. If anyone else is doing this, I'm curious to hear what you're holding for the bonds component - perhaps a particular ETF or fund. If you're holding individual gilts, please could you let me know which you're holding.

Thanks.

For the long dated Gilts you ideally want 30 year or more to maturity, replacing those once they're down to 20 years or less with newly purchased 30 year+.  So from http://www.fixedincomeinvestor.co.uk/x/ ... ?groupid=3 the 32 year 7 month 4.5% treasury springs out at the present time.  Gilts are CGT free, pay income gross, but income is taxable unless wrapped in an ISA when net=gross.
Harry Browne recomended to buy the longest bonds. Isn't better to buy almost 50 year gealts, because they are available? I'm in EU. Do you have to pay any taxes if you buy gilts through foreign company?
