Harry Browne thought devaluation was an economic condition as well ??
How would the PP handle devaluation? I imagine this is where a currency is exchanged for a new one like in Mexico

I don't know but I wonder what he'd have thought about QE, NIRP, ZIRP, etc. That's like an entirely new condition... Japan style stagnation.

So, what are thoughts on a reconfigured PP if Harry were to react to a 5th economic condition? More 30 year Treasuries? Less gold?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I don't really see the difference between inflation and devaluation the more I think about it....bedraggled wrote:So, what are thoughts on a reconfigured PP if Harry were to react to a 5th economic condition? More 30 year Treasuries? Less gold?

Both methods increase the money supply.
Devaluation: We will cut your dollar bill in half, but rename each half a dollar
Inflation: We will print twice the number of dollar notes
Hold more hard assets perhaps?

The PP has done pretty well in Japan, I understand. I don't think any new wisdom was necessary.ochotona wrote:I don't know but I wonder what he'd have thought about QE, NIRP, ZIRP, etc. That's like an entirely new condition... Japan style stagnation.

That's good to hear. If they keep piling on more debt and QE, we'll be Japan in 2025. That's close to my retirement.Xan wrote:The PP has done pretty well in Japan, I understand. Personally, I would not compare the US to Japan.ochotona wrote:That's good to hear. If they keep piling on more debt and QE, we'll be Japan in 2025. Relatively the US is more financially conservative, and the PP can only protect you from so much.
Have some Japanese friends that used to work in Finance. I am referred to articles such as:

Gold would work fine in that situation.
