Permanent Portfolio at Schwab

Post by digitalfour »

I have just gotten into investing. I have a Roth IRA at Schwab, and I'd like to invest either in PRPFX or the 4 way split.

Does anyone have any knowledge about investing at Schwab? I'd like to know how you do it.

I had occassion some time ago to help somebody look at Schwab funds.  Maybe this?

SWTIX - Stocks
PRULX - Bonds, but it has a transaction fee

Couldn't really find anything for the gold, they have gold equity funds but no bullion.

SWUXX might be good for the cash but the fund's closed, use I bonds instead?  I wasn't too impressed with Chuck.

I use Schwab for both my IRA and my 401k (through a brokerage window) and have it split up this way:

* VTI  25%
* SHY  25%
* TLT  25%
* SGOL 5%

These ETFs have about the lowest expense ratios you're likely to find.

The remaining 20% is in physical gold outside of the accounts.

I also have some PRPFX in a regular Schwab account. The expense ratio is higher, but it's more tax-efficient for a non-advantaged account.
