PP Manhattan Meet-up: 2 pm May 9 @ New Leaf Cafe
Several of our list members live in NY City and surrounding areas.
Is anybody in the mood for a meet-up, say next week? We unconventional investors just might have a pleasant conversation while getting to know each other better.
I think a Mid-Manhattan meeting site would be convenient for people coming in from the burbs. Is a weekday or a weekend preferable? Let me know if anyone is interested.
So long,
Goodasgold

I am only in the city sporadically but would love to get together. Will try to make it if something is set up.
Re: Manhattan Meet-Up for PP Folks?
Awesome!
Depending on where people in the burbs are located and whether car or train is involved, uptown might be easier and less intimidating than midtown. Anywhere is fine with me though.

Re: Manhattan Meet-Up for PP Folks?
We can book this for when barrett is in town.
Sophie, barrett and I are uptown folks. That means 165th street by New York Presbyterian Hospital.
This seems most convenient for 3 of us but this is only the initial thought. I even have the coffee shop picked out. The A train and 1 train both go there.
If you have a better idea, post it. I'm open.
We could even bring coffee and go to Fort Tryon Park by the Cloisters but we need other input. A dearth of snow appeals.
Thanks.

The Penn Station area could work- midtown, as suggested but
1) only I might find it easy travelling and
2) it is pretty congested in midtown.

Re: Manhattan Meet-Up for PP Folks?
If the weather is nice, Manhattan doesn't get any better than when sipping coffee and enjoying the splendid Hudson River views from a bench in Fort Tryon Park.
As a fallback when the weather is iffy, my Boglehead discussion group often meets in the large public space in the Sony auditorium at 550 Madison Ave., between 55th and 56th St. There is a Starbucks and a restroom onsite. And if the weather turns out well, benches at the southeast corner of Central Park are only five blocks away.
Both of these possibilities sound great to me. Set the time and place, and I will be there.

Midtown, then is ok with me.
Do you have dates in mind? Also days?

Re: Manhattan Meet-Up for PP Folks?
One nice thing about Fort Tryon is that you can easily find free parking at the New Leaf Cafe, only exception being if it's reserved for a wedding or something. And the cafe serves outside by the Cloisters garden. But I'm happy with any other option. What would people think of dim sum in Chinatown?
Weekends of May 9, 16, or 23rd all work for me.

Dim Sum in Chinatown, New Leaf in Fort Tryon Park, anything is OK for me with the location. The scheduling is my issue but best for everyone else to just find a time that works and I will try to make it. If we can get 4-5 people with an interest in the PP in the same room, that will probably set a world record.

I live in LES but can meet anywhere on Manhattan

Re: Manhattan Meet-Up for PP Folks?
May 9 or May 16 (both days are Saturdays) work best for me. And there is no private party scheduled for the New Leaf Restaurant on those dates:
http://newleafrestaurant.com/calendar/
I would prefer the New Leaf over Chinatown, as the latter is often congested and the same goes for the few parks in the area, if we decide to retire to a more leisurely place for coffee after eating.
But both places are fine with me. What time of day would be best for getting together?

For those who aren't sure, LES = Lower East Side. (I bet you can buy fine pork belly there!)

May 9th is ok with me. 10th good also, if Sundays are better. I am guessing people would like early afternoon time slot.

Are you typing with your toes again? We'll take that to mean "5/9 and 5/10."
The Senior Member status comes with added responsibility. Instructions on the secret handshake to follow. I was trying to figure out the other day how I could have 600 or 700 posts already inasmuch as I don't know what the hell I am talking about most of the time.
On a serious note, if those New Yorkers who are interested in meeting could let us know which date (May 9 or May 10) doesn't work, that would be great.

barrett,
A typist with a sense of fun keyboards with the toes. Others type before 7 AM and accomplish the same result. Fun need not be injected.
So, with posts most trivial, I can become an executive member? Hence, on to 2x and 3x ETFs!!! That could renew 8 old threads and start 5 new ones!! And with 20% ++ returns, no less! Whodda thought?!!
Actually, this being a decorous institution, I will show a great degree of respect.

So, is it 5/9, Saturday, or 5/10, Sunday?
I think I typed this properly- and it's before 7AM. I am getting better.

Re: Manhattan Meet-Up for PP Folks?
OK, people are chomping at the bit to get this scheduled, and it is just 1.5 weeks away. How about this:
Saturday May 9th, 2pm
New Leaf Cafe in Fort Tryon Park
If the weather is bad and/or people think New Leaf is too pricey, I suggest this alternative:
Next Door Restaurant
West 187th Street between Cabrini Blvd and Fort Washington Ave
Saturday May 9th, 2pm
New Leaf Cafe in Fort Tryon Park

Re: Manhattan Meet-Up for PP Folks?
But let's hear from the midtown people. Uptown is farther than many may think.
