Hey there PP investors!
Yes, I've been totally AWOL for a while now, but circumstances have prevented me from even logging in, let alone posting to the PP forums (i.e. work restrictions). But I saw this article and wanted to share:
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/20/your- ... funds.html
I'll check back in again when I'm able to, but it might be a while before that happens, so until then happy investing!
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

My wife's uncle routinely trounces the market. And with penny stocks. Just ask him!

Stay free, my friends.

That study looked at a relatively small pool of funds and was limited to five years. There have been other studies covering ten years and the numbers are actually worse for actively managed funds. Trying to figure out which one or two of the tens of thousands of funds will actually beat the S&P 500 over the next ten years, adjusting for fees and expenses is rather akin to buying a lottery ticket.
Edit: Typo
