US version of a Goldsmith PP?

Curious if there any funds / etf’s in the Vanguard family or other major players that could be used for a US Goldsmith PP.

Maybe - I was actually looking at that recently. Then also started looking at Wellington. I’m going to backtest Wellington / IAU against the PP. Thanks for the suggestion.

I ran 100% wellesley, 75% wellesley, 25% IAU, and an HBPP(TLT,IAU,VTI,BIL). They were all pretty similar. I also did one with Wellington funds. None of the portfolios took a big hit during the March crash. The images show the numbers before the market downturn and at the bottom.

Wellesley (non-global) is a wonderful fund. For a long time, I’ve been tempted to employ a vp of my select indy dividend stocks with VCIT (Vanguard intermediate corporate bond etf) as a kind of homemade wellesley.

Even a mix of of VTI (total stock) and VCIT at Wellesley’s current stock-bond proportions looks pretty decent. (obviously, there are caveats. Wellesley owns treasuries while vcit does not; you get full-time mangagement of the stock portion vs keeping an eye on your own; higher expense ratio, though; etc).

Wellesley stocks are large cap value stocks according to morningstar. So you might need to use VTV to backtest with.

Ah yes, good point.I should know that by now, as I own VVIAX (the fund version of VTV) in a traditional IRA that i never look at.

Wouldn't think the PP would have so little volatility after looking at Gold alone
