Re: New I-Bond Rate for 5/1/23 to 10/31/23

Had intended to full go through this when it came out in September 2022 so as to implement. https://tipswatch.com/2022/09/21/short-term-treasurys-even-more-attractive-now/ However, since then several other things took priority. Those things have now been taken care of and I do have to time to go th...

Re: New I-Bond Rate for 5/1/23 to 10/31/23

I’m not planning to buy new, but I may “swap” (sell and buy new) older iBonds, as most of mine have a 0% fixed rate (one has 0.2% I think)

Not that I have much, but, as I have space, I might as well get that extra 0.9% (even with any tax implications of selling existing iBonds, I _think_ worth it)

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II

What with the starvation, and now more recent invasion by a vile terrorist neighbour, I'm certain that Ukraine deeply regrets having ever believed Russian promises when it surrendered its nukes. Caught twice, one would expect Ukraine to never be caught out again. Can't see how a negotiated settleme...

Fox lawyers say Tucker not to be believed, so, why should we give him any credibility or spend time analyzing everything that he says? https://www.npr.org/2020/09/29/917747123/you-literally-cant-believe-the-facts-tucker-carlson-tells-you-so-say-fox-s-lawye https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/16/media/fox-ne...

Re: What happens to I-bonds if rates plummet again

For example, If they cut the rate to 0 (and your fixed rate is 0) wait three more months and when you sell you'd lose 0. Correct me if I'm wrong That's actually very clever. I keep looking for the catch. Ditto — ones I can think of: * maybe the opportunity cost vs what the could get when take out? ...

Re: 2022 Returns

I measured the PP with a real return (including inflation) that was down a little more than 18%. Yes, that's the worst year I have on record since 1970. That may not sound very good until you realize that it was still in the top third of all portfolio options and still quite tame compared to other ...

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio

To any holders of the GB, or anyone really, what is your review of its performance in 2022, and how do you see it going forwards? How did it do vs the PP? If Quicken isn’t lying to me, Gold, LTT, and SCV have all beaten the S&P500 for the last three months (up 18-11%!) and YTD, so, looking bett...

Re: Joypog's regularly changing AA (originally "The Desert Looking Glass Portfolio")

New Year's update: Two tweaks 1) My small allocation in wacky investments is going into Managed Futures, a mix of DBMF, CTA, and KMLM. We'll see how that goes. 2) The Wife made it clear she strongly prefers cash...so it looks like my AA will be more like Half Speculative - 16% each in US-TSM, US-SC...

As far as illegal immigrants, I've always wondered what percentage are hired by Republicans vs Democrats

I've always assumed Republican (more in agriculture and management, I assume)

So, just soundbite for most republican politicians.

I bought 30 years at 4 and then again at 3.87. I am using a new rule for myself. It’s called go halfsies. If I’m scared to buy or sell I do around half. That gets me moving. The mechanical part is easy (15/35 Bands): the emotional part can be more...ahem, problematic. Understatement of the year 🙂

Thanks!

I’ve been thinking about soon buying half of what I plan to purchase for the year (still have to figure out how much I plan to put in)

Having that 0.4% “real” is nice — makes any new purchases better than all my existing purchases
