Re: Inflation Reduction Act

Interesting list and looks reasonably the same now but I'd put the car salespeople above the politicians. Interesting how 10 years ago more than half of people thought politicians were not to be trusted. And yet, we still vote the slease bags into office. Shame on us! Or as Soros might say "you get...

Re: Quality Time Left

I definitely relate to jl's last paragraph. A couple of quick thoughts. Holding actual non-interest bearing cash in a fiat money system is categorically about as stupid as it gets financially. In the US you at least need to be holding STTs. You can buy them as short as 4 weeks. Also, the Boglehead'...

On political issues I take the positions that is not the one that is most going to benefit me personally but, instead, the positions that best benefits our entire society. This is about the first time I was hoping for something to pass strictly because it would benefit me personally. This Act elimi...

Re: Inflation Reduction Act

It looks like a great bill, and one we need quite badly. The title change to Inflation Reduction Act seemed mostly aimed at satisfying Manchin and his constituents. It does appear to nudge the needle in the right direction on inflation in the short term, and hopefully moves the needle quite substan...

I've been hearing about research into psilocybin for treating depression. And other uses I've mostly heard from a podcast I like -- The Tim Ferris Show https://tim.blog/2021/03/31/psychedelics-101/ Indeed! The gf and I had this particular bag of shrooms in one of our dresser drawers for a while now...

Yeah, this is a strange one (and I'm a left leaning independent!)

China has been pushing things, and IMO, their response is overdoing it.

But still, don't seem the time (not that I know anything behind the scenes)

Another weeks goes by Pp down 9.30 Wellesly down 6.41 Fidelity insight income model down 7.30 What attracted you to Wellesly? Capital preservation alternative to PP? Or distribution yield? Something else? Being 1/3 stocks and 2/3 bonds, I would have expected it to be doing worse than it is, but on ...

Reminder…per HB, when the dollar does well gold will not. Gold is the risk off asset when the dollar is tanking.

Re: Inflation - What are you doing different

“Tiny portion of a portfolio of material size” How do you define a portion of material size? Over what investing horizon? Yeah, if given a lump sum of $10M But if investing over time, $10k/year == $100k + interest, so after 10 years == 10% of a $1m portfolio Have a spouse, can get to 20% of that in ...

Re: Rebalancing advice needed

Are you reinvesting dividends / distributions? If so, as already paying taxes in those, maybe don’t reinvest and put the stock and LTT distributions into cash? While what I have in taxable is small, what I do to simplify the number of lots to track (I might reinvest once a year if needed to rebalance)

Ha, I just sold the Intl in the GB-ish part of my portfolio, although my overall retirement portfolio is similar to your in that it’s ~50% stocks, 15% Gold, with some international in the non GB parts

Ergo, likely a great time to be in Intl! 🙂

Re: i-Bonds How-to Q&A as of 2021 November

It's not clear to me how I-bonds are deep cash, given that they mature in 30 years. What am I missing? You mean as opposed to being deep bonds? A bond matures in 30 years and you have no option to cash out early (not including the coupon) other than selling it, and its value can gyrate wildly. The ...
