Re: Trump as tragicomedy
I am to achieve big things this year. :) On a more serious note, sometimes you just write stupid stuff and previously when I did that on this forum I would just delete the post. But the last couple of times I get a message saying the post can't be deleted. Did this change or am I missing something?

Re: PP Inspired Leveraged Portfolios
Thanks HF, you are too kind. Over the holidays I spent some time researching risk parity portfolios. The KM portfolio I posted this past year is pretty close to a RP portfolio. If I continue to post on this thread it will likely be something very similar to the KM, slightly more refined and probably...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy
Just saw kbg's post...historically you may be right, but there is something different about the Central American migration that's going on now. There are Americans going down there to help recruit for the caravans, and the "coyotes" driving them are earning a very handsome profit. Sure th...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy
The best solution to immigration, but one that no one is even proposing, is to get rid of the welfare state. You do realize the welfare state is a very minor cause at best of immigration, right? Far and away the largest causes of immigration are large scale violence and catastrophic environmental f...

Re: Tyler's Pinwheel Portfolio
I’m more of a DM guy for us vs. foreign but if one doesn’t want to do active then foreign should definitely get a slice of your investment pie. A very interesting combo is say QQQ and EEM for DM.

Re: PP Inspired Leveraged Portfolios
Hi gang! It was a good ride but it’s likely I will be bailing on the leveraged PP and next week’s post will also likely be my last performance post. Usually this time of year I have a good chunk of time off and and I go in depth on some financial topic. This year has been Risk Parity. Unleveraged it...

Re: Worst investing year ever...
Stocks are now about where I feel comfortable 30/17.5/17.5/35. Retirement accounts still 70/30. Done for 2018. Perfectly sensible allocation but I did notice you mentioned 35/15/15/35 earlier which is also very sensible. Spend some time on portfolio visualizer to see how they differ in performance ...

Re: Worst investing year ever...
Today's update...SPY now -19.39, GLD 6.7, TLT 4.65 since 10/1. For the year SPY down 11.22, PP down 3.85. However, I will jump to Budd's defense on one thing. The PP has been slaughtered by the SPY since 2009. However, going back to 2017 it's getting pretty close to a tie now with the PP having 1/4t...

Re: Worst investing year ever...
LOL, Budd is back. Fact time... SPY down 8.89% this year and down 17.12 since October first... Meanwhile PP down 3.65 for the year and 1.65 since 10/1 And just to make the point crystal clear...since 10/1 GLD up 5.54 and TLT up 4.13% After today, the stats get even better for the PP. Oh my gosh...th...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy
That said I'm happy to see the wars ending and the criminal justice reform bill that was passed. I thought when the market tanked he'd be cranking up wars... not winding them down. Kudos to him for that. If Trump succeeds in taking on the Military Industrial Complex and transforming what Pat Buchan...

IG,
Definite downside to ST is taxes. You will have to explain the volatility filter application. Using a ST look back and volatility is kinda the whole point of going shorter...ie take advantage of shorter term movements.

Re: Tight Money Coming?
Well...I’d say it may or may not matter. The actual equation is money * velocity (fancy word for turnover). During QE money supply went up tremendously...velocity went down the whole time...net nothing and leaning hard toward deflation. If velocity picks up we could have another net nothing. I suspe...

Re: Purpose of the PP
But at least for me, I was/am relatively convinced doing it now is not a good idea. The US market has been on a 9 year absolute tear, was very overbought and for about the last 3 months economic data has been softening. In 2013, I took a little bit of profits from vp stocks, just a little. Anytime ...

They will be right almost certainly over the long run and I could not fault budd for wanting to rebalance out if he hated gold as much as he appeared to. But at least for me, I was/am relatively convinced doing it now is not a good idea. The US market has been on a 9 year absolute tear, was very ove...

Re: Dual Momentum GEM + HBPP a great combo, easy to test
I'm tweaking my dual mo stuff to the 12mo signal and a 6/3 mo weighted signal in 2019. 50% of the port to each signal. This is a small change to my current 10mo/5mo approach. Interesting. Expectant results? No idea. They both backtest well with the ST clocking the 12mo one by a good stretch in more...

Re: New I Bond Rate 11/1/18 to 4/30/18
I'm wondering whether to buy my 2019 I-Bonds before May 1, if inflation expectations are receding. ochotona, Wait until mid-April 2019, when the latest figures on of the CPI-U are announced. That will give the new variable rate component for I bonds purchases for the next six months starting 5/1/19...

Actually I think you are the fool. I’ve run across people like you all my life, thinking they are superior than someone else in one way or another. Again, humorous to me these are usually the losers of the bunch Mr. vacuum cleaner. Like the PP, you suck. Budd, this has always been a very "hand...

Regarding Kindle Unlimited, I tried it but found less to read after 4 weeks and cancelled in 3 months. Any thoughts on Kindle Unlimited? If you like romance novels and other for the masses kinda stuff it may be good for you. If you are more into substance, not so much. SIgn up for a couple of month...

Re: Purpose of the PP
I am a recovering Buddaholic. But today I had a good day.
I typed up a response (reaction) to Budd's latest. Accurate, filled with facts, witty, with a slight bit of snark...but then I deleted it.
Today, was a good day.
