Re: Bitcoin as a complement or alternative to gold in the PP

@bitcoininthevp What platform would you use for call and put purchases? How much are they selling for? You can use the CME. Ledgerx is another fully regulated options exchange in the US. Deribit is the biggest Bitcoin options exchange but not open to US retail customers due to regulation. Both thos...

Highly defensive towards (speculating) inflation and a currency crisis only.

Deflation or prosperity consummately crush this portfolio accordingly, right?

Or bitcoin eating golds lunch. :-X

How does the IRS asking about it make it less anonymous? Completely irrelevant. If IRS asks about gold does that make gold all of the sudden less anonymous?

Re: Bitcoin as a complement or alternative to gold in the PP

I know it is tempting to feel one has to get in before it’s too late. But a lot of the too late scenarios would be problematic. I have some FOMO, but if it’s truly going to have a great future, it should be okay to wait. If you buy one bitcoin today, you can protect your USD value from a drop by bu...

Re: Bitcoin as a complement or alternative to gold in the PP

First I think the masses are just buying bitcoin through Robinhood. From what I can tell, you don't really have control of it there. I have never felt great about direct bitcoin holding. It feels very clunky. I don't see the masses ever adopting it in that form so it really isn't so moneyish yet. A...

Re: Bitcoin as a complement or alternative to gold in the PP

I'm thinking a 1% allocation to Bitcoin in the PP isn't such a crazy idea at this point. So that would be 24% in gold and 1% in Bitcoin. This number could be revisited as the market evolves. I had recommended a PP with a Bitcoin sidecar. Maybe its one way to look at it for PP purists. https://www.g...

TBH Im deep in the Bitcoin community and laser eyes almost passed me up. I believe it is people signaling for BTC to $100k. I think Michael Saylor did it and then bitcoiners went nuts.

Re: I think it’s time to move into crypto

I was just looking through all the Cryptos and found something called "bitcoin gold". I was feeling pretty good about getting a little bit but found out the two big exchanges don't even sell it. No wonder it looked like a better value to me. The masses can't buy it easily. I would really ...

Wow. I don't know if that means you can also buy this from US account but will this be the first opening to be able to buy bitcoin in retirement accounts? Being able to buy bitcoin in a retirement account seems like a game changer more than the ETF itself. A lot more purchasing power in retirement ...

Isn't it pretty much a given that any cryptocurrency that becomes sufficiently popular is going to be targeted by the government? Governments don't like competition, especially in the monetary realm. Has any Bitcoin advocate sufficiently answered that question? I have always felt it was a matter of...

Holding bitcoin can be impossible to detect in the physical world, etc. But cashing out would be difficult. It would be harder but still easier than cashing out of a banned gold. Bitcoin: "What is this bank transfer I see to your account?" "Oh, consulting" Gold: "The postal...

I can't quite wrap my head around bitcoin being an asset like gold. Gold is a tangible commodity that also happens to be money. Bitcoin is a fiat currency in my mind - backed by nothing like the dollar and euro, etc. Might as well have some for diversification, buts its akin to cash IMHO! Gold is &...

Re: Bitcoin+Cash portfolio?

Keep in mind, bitcoin trades 24/7 and moves can be big. And your fidelity account/ GBTC doesn’t trade 24/7. So you could have a sell order that doesn't execute at your price, while bitcoin moves over the weekend for example. I was thinking about this too. What would be the best strategy to account ...

So, I went ahead and bought GBTC on my Traditional IRA with Fidelity. :-) Now the question is what kind of orders I need too place there to sell at certain points? That would be two scenarios: 1) Hits the same price I bought at (to prevent loss) 2) Doubles the price I bought at Would it be some kin...

Why would you buy GBTC with a 2% annual fee if you can buy the real thing? Why would you buy GBTC with a 2% annual fee if you can buy the real thing? A few reasons. 1. You dont need to worry about bitcoin technical stuff like storing it, they custody 2. The GBTC premium (currently ~25%) can actually increase during bull markets so you could profit even more that way 3. Yo...

Gold outflows, bitcoin inflows

Im curious if bitcoin really is becoming a competitor to gold. Im a fan of both assets.

Since October:

More than $3bn of inflows into Grayscale Bitcoin Trust
More than $7bn of outflows from Gold ETFs

Does anyone else have other data sets on this?

Ever used kraken? Yes, they are fine too. As long as you are not trading BTC, any of these should be ok from a fee perspective. For one time buy and hold investments, that is. Once comfortable, consider holding your own coins as it prevents exchange/custodial risks. Similar to Harry recommending ho...
