Re: Some concerns about crypto (In General)
Why does this matter? Because a large number of Bitcoins could have been purchased using the potentially fugazzi tether, running up the price. This doesn't really phase me. Just like the other assets in my PP, I buy Bitcoin w/out concern for the current price. Sure, if I had waited until today to b...

Sold 66% of HUT, and 50% of BITF and MARA and bought paper gold to keep things in range.

Re: Still Here... By The Skin Of My Teeth
I agree that social media is absolutely ruining people. Knowing that you can peer into the life of your ex (a curated view at that) at any time is too much of a temptation to resist. And every time I succumb to that temptation it's like picking at the wound that's trying to heal. I've tried to bloc...

Re: Still Here... By The Skin Of My Teeth
Since leaving however I've been in a low place. Like, suicidally low. I've been hospitalized twice, had police intervention called to my house twice, and have had god knows how many hours of therapy. Some coping mechanisms (some of which have been maladaptive) have included: way too much weed; MDMA...

Re: What is Your Crypto Portfolio
15% of my portfolio is directed towards bitcoin. Since most of my holdings are in retirement accounts, I have to compromise w/ miners/ETFs there instead of holding it directly. I started out w/ 1% of total portfolio in these: - MSTR - GBTC - MARA - HUT - BITF - SDIG - RIOT They count towards Bitcoin...

Re: Why the "Total Stock Market" isn't anything of the sort
I do 50% SP500 and 50% Small Cap for the equities portion of my PP. I think it was MachineGhost who turned me on to it. Isn't it the GB that suggest that also ? In my purest US-PP I am using MSCI USA (has sthg like 630~640 constituents vs tad less than 500 for the S&P 500). As others have menti...

I don't like them, but I don't understand them well enough to drop them from the portfolio. I have 20% allocated to LTTs. As a side note, I do believe rates can go significantly lower.

Re: Why the "Total Stock Market" isn't anything of the sort
Fascinating blog post that shows how even "all world" stock index funds only represent part of the global equity market: https://www.pragcap.com/the-us-stock-market-is-not-as-exceptional-as-weve-been-told/ Kind of makes me think that folks like Desert and Larry Swedroe who overweight smal...

Re: A worthwhile read for all PP'ers
I love everything about it except the speculative nature/ price movement. Of course I say that with only a vague understanding of how it works. Anyway, when and if the price ever settles into a range that inspires long term confidence, then I'd be willing to get in. And if that price is 200K, that'...

Re: Gold outflows, bitcoin inflows
I think what this shows is that some people are willing to comment on topics and make definitive conclusions about something without actually having done any research into the subject matter. I believe everyone is entitled to their personal opinions but when it comes to facts, it would help to take...

Re: Gold outflows, bitcoin inflows
Physical gold can be both/either anonymous and private, bitcoin isn't private, every transaction is visible in the blockchain (the distributed electronic public ledger). In certain situations the privacy of tangible can be extremely valuable. Ever try to fly to another country with gold on your per...

Beyond that level, self interest can lead to bad outcomes. My example would be the years leading up to 2008. Alan Greenspan, being a student of Ayn Rand, was a huge believer in the invisible hand. Then when the mortgage lenders, borrowers, Wall Street banks, appraisers, and every other invested par...

They do seem to prefer that, but I think its more of a play to the narrative than an actually rational position. I feel comfortable making this claim as it simply reflects user behavior: most people keep their coins on custodial exchanges, from a code perspective UASF doesn't make much sense, and t...

If/when the value rises, so also does the intent/desire to steal high value. IMO the thieves will always remain one step ahead at finding exploits (as they do with Browsers) and present day $600M type thefts/hacks out of the bit coin algorithm would simply scale. At the $21Tn value you suggest the ...
