Re: Holding gold in retirement accounts

I can see the appeal of ETFs/Someone else holding a PERCENTAGE your gold for the ease of selling when gold hits the higher rebalance bound.

However, why not hold physical for the majority?

Re: Bitcoin Costs More than Gold?

ethereum is not safe? I do not believe so. I know the price is rising for ETH and there is a ton of news and buzz. However, currently there is no supply cap for the # of ETH. So think USD style inflation. Additionally, ethereum is built on the idea that decentralized smart contracts are something t...

This is completely true with simple bitcoin payments, yes. Bitcoin favors the merchant in this regard. A simple, bitcoin based economy would rely muc...

Re: Fortunately nothing can go wrong with this plan!

Anyway how does one know there is actual gold at the end of a "blockchain".. Any takers ? You dont. Ever. Banks have taught us this a million times. This is just another bank holding your real money (maybe). Didn't some hacker empty a bitcoin bank some time ago ? The analogy here is that ...

Re: Bitcoin Costs More than Gold?

I am happy to answer any specific questions that anyone has about bitcoin. In this thread or PM if youd like. A common misconception that I see in this thread is an overemphasis on "bitcoin isnt 'accepted' many places". Bitcoin is definitely a payment network, dont get me wrong. But bitcoi...

I believe the gold portion of your post is how Harry believed it as well in some of his radio shows. Gold as the world's second favorite money next to USD. People go to gold during uncertainty and gold doesn't necessarily follow inflation except when inflation numbers are high.

I do think that given the hasing power and electricity used that in combination with regular difficulty increases and a fixed amount of Bitcoins to be mined, one could arrive at a fair value estimate. Have you seen anyone attempt to do this? The amount of money people are putting into the hashing p...

I was referring to all of the me-too cryptocurrencies that don't offer anything that Bitcon doesn't (well other than a fancy name), i.e. Litecoin. "Me too" vs actual innovation is all subjective, I guess. Zcash adds to fungibility. Litecoin adds faster confirmation times and a different m...

What I tell myself to make myself comfortable with bank storage is that the gold is for re-establishing myself after the panic is over, which may be months down the road, when the banks presumably will have to re-open. The gold won't be much use during the panic itself. What you want during the pan...

I think fungibility is the biggest concern and should be the biggest effort in the coming years.

Coinjoin, MimbleWimble, Confidential Transactions, Ring Sigs, Zerocash.

All ideas being tossed around to solve the fungibility problem. There is hope on this front.

It isn't anonymous out of the box. It is technically 'pseudonymous'. But with proper techniques it can be used without people knowing who you are.
