Re: Oil Stocks

Oil stocks is only for dividend investors. Don't try to time on the stock price. It will be dead business at some time, 10 - 30 years. So in the meantime you just collect your dividend. It's about 4 %. No guarantee, but quite stable. So better than Bonds at the moment. There are the big 5. If your a...

Re: 2014 Predictions (just for fun)

Never saw more evidence that is really impossible to predict the future than this year. P.e.:

PIMCO 25+ Year Zero Coupon U.S. Trs ETF (ZROZ) : Year to Date Return (Mkt): 40.17%
It makes me very very modest. Although the year is not yet over.

Re: How much do you keep in cash in a regular bank account?

I have a checking account for household expenses that ebbs and flows between about $7-15k, that I consider separate from the PPs. $50k sounds like a lot to tie up in cash. If it were me I'd probably keep about $10k in bank cash and either dump the remaining $40k into a PP, or else consider it to be...

Re: 30/60/10 vs HBPP

There are several assetallocations better (CAGR) compared to 4x25 %. Out of my head, rang 300 out of 10.000. The best one (round figures) was (1972 -2012) 50 % Gold & 50 % Stocks. (1982 - 2012) was 100 % Bonds. So basically you have to choose one you feel happy with depending on your personality...

I use a dividend stock portfolio to mess around, YTD 16,3 %, takes my mind off the core PP portfolio.

And how about today ? They are up 20 % YTD. That's is scary. And nowhere near a rebalance. I'm very confidence in the PP concept.
But now I'm in doubt. Sell some ?. Stay and pray. Sell all and buy cash(no), equities (no), gold (maybe).

Re: The PIMCO 25+ Year Zero Coupon U.S. Treasury Index Exchange-Traded Fund

I use them (about 25 % of the LT part) in addition to the EURO bonds EFT as the € bonds have only a duration of 22 years. The ZROZ now has a duration of 27.3 years and therefore less volatile than the 30 years bond. ZROZ distribute 4 time a year dividend. This year 19% up  :P. That is nice but also ...

Re: Variable portfolio based on "Timing" the 4 asset classes.

Just an update:
Standaard PP = 7,1 % YTD 2014
VP Timed (4) (5) assets = 6,5 % YTD 2014
Since the start 1 april 2013
PP = 3,7 %
VP = 5,3 %
(including trading cost).

Well, a milestone  ;D All assetsclasses are above their 200 days average. Isn't that weird. HB always assumed there was always one assetclass down the drain. Gold in 2013. However I just follow the strategy and I'm now fully invested in: Gold, LT Bonds, Equities, REIT, Commodities. Performance: YTD:...

Re: Non resident aliens and tax on dividends

Tax dividend is a problem For EFT there are 2 way's out: 1) accumulating, marked by the extention (acc). They reinvest the dividend 2) domicile. Some Ishare funds in Europa are held in Ierland, which apply tax dividend. Vanguard is US based, so you pay 30 %, depending on the UK tax treaty. In the Ne...
