Re: Permanent Portfolio in Europe (follow-up)
Yep Dutch, Sorry. no CAGR. I used this just as an benchmark against my own portfolio (10% cash, 20 % gold, 30 % LT Bonds, 40 % Equities // average yield 6,4 % so slightly better). I dont have inflation figures but I think you can google them. My guess is around 2% for this period. So real return wil...

Re: Nobody believes in the Permanent Portfolio
Back to topic ? No, we are not wrong, because we believe in passive, low-expense-ratio, well-diversified investing. In fact, our investing is actually better diversified than the typical stock/bond portfolio, because we also hold a valuable commodity (gold) which is uncorrelated with stocks/bonds. Y...

Re: Question for original forum members
I have learned about the Permant Portfolio in 2002. I dont know when I discovered this forum In 2002 I had about 70 % equities allocations so I moved to a modified PP [40% stocks, 20% gold, 30% LTT, 10% cash $/€ mixed]. With an average yield over 15 years of 6,1 % I have no reason to change the stra...

Re: PP Performance for 2016
It sounds like Gerard is holding a USD PP, and that some of the return this past year was the dollar increasing against the euro. That worked out well this year, but you've taken on some currency risk that may not be necessary. The gold component is enough currency risk, since its price in local cu...

Re: Is The Big Crash Coming?
A crash? Give me a break you Chicken Littles. A crash is when you lose almost 30% in a day aka October 19 ,1987. That's probably gonna happen if Trump wins the election. That I remember; I started investing on October 12, 1987 with $ 10.000,- gift from my mother. I lost $ 3000 that day and i phoned...

Thanks, I saw it too.
Did you analyse the difference with iShares Euro Government Bond 15-30yr UCITS ETF (IBGJ).
The duration seems longer (better ?!) but the yield is lower ?

I understand your concern. However I still do have my €/$ LT Bond-allocations: 75 % iShares € Government Bond 15-30 & 25 % ZROZ And of course the capital gain at the moment is foolish. I just hope the rebalance point will arrive before the game is over. Your allocation at the moment implies in f...

The difference between the P and the J is planning isn't it ?.
You should expect a "J", however I think the "P"people can accept better the fact that the future is unknown which is quite essentail for the PP philosofie.

I like predictions, so useless.
I just think the world come to senses, so Stocks & Bonds will go down.
So Gold should the trick.
"Of course, "bonds down" has been the prediction for 6 years now and we're all 0 for 6. Trying for 0 for 7."

Re: Oil Stocks
I think there's two ways to approach the oil situation: 1) Look to enter into well diversified companies for the long-run. Dividend investing. 2) Look to pick up drillers at a potential bottom and cash out after a significant rebound. For the former, Chevron, Exxon, Phillips are all good choices. F...

Re: Oil Stocks
Oil stocks is only for dividend investors. Don't try to time on the stock price. It will be dead business at some time, 10 - 30 years. So in the meantime you just collect your dividend. It's about 4 %. No guarantee, but quite stable. So better than Bonds at the moment. There are the big 5. If your a...
