Re: PP YTD performance - was it the worst ever?

I am only looking at SPIA, fixed annuities, no ongoing fees (or if there are, they are built in). The payout I see is the payout I will get for the rest of my life. As for risk, not sure how to answer that. If I cannot trust names like Mutual of Omaha, Prudential, New York Life, etc with at least a ...

Re: PP YTD performance - was it the worst ever?

They pay you back a ratio of interest and your principal. Two main things I like about them: 1) Nearly risk free. Get from an A+ or better insurer (like New York Life, Mutual of Omaha, etc) 2) They pay for life + joint spouse life + cash refund and many other varieties. Vinny, look at: https://www.i...

I really had no idea at the time it was going to be fortuitous, at least up until now. So I am not complaining. But what I currently am fin...

The effect of rates going up or down on them is not as great as you would think
Sure. But there is some effect, and I am in no rush.

See indexed annuities https://www.investopedia.com/articles/retirement/12/build-your-own-annuity.asp I understand you wouldn’t participate fully in good years, but at least are limited to 0% or higher gain in down years. My overall reason for doing this is stability, as well as completely decouplin...

Re: Covered calls and Cash secured puts in TLT, GLD and SLV

Probably just stating the obvious, but that's an annual income of $36k while still not having given up all of your principal as would happen in the theoretical scenario of annuitizing everything. On a more general note, it's good that we are now having more conversations like this on this forum wit...

Re: Covered calls and Cash secured puts in TLT, GLD and SLV

I am curious if, as an exercise, you have compared income from annuitizing everything vs. Just going 100% to "cash" and assuming a steady effective rate of return for the next 30 years or so. That would seem to alleviate some of the inflation risk vs. holding everything in SPIAs. Just kin...

Cortopassi, are serious that you can live on a third of $7,900? Even if you stop working? If so, I believe that my wife and I have become totally detached from reality. But damn! $2,633 per month? Really? What kind of saintly woman did you marry? O0 Absolutely. And that is probably on the high end ...

Guys, I have been using this site. https://www.immediateannuities.com/ Easy to plug in values, and gives you payout info without needing to enter an email or anything. I am starting to keep track of payout rate. They absolutely have gone up. Right now at 55, if I put in 500k, life with cash refund (...

I started paying the $20/year to Google a couple months ago for 100GB. Why I was even concerned about $20 a year I don't know. Deleting old emails with attachments will free up a lot of space. There is an app that can scan your Gmail account and rank the file size. Yeah, I do that all the time. Mos...

Cash seems to be the only place to sort of hide right now. I know TLT has come back a little bit off recent lows, but damn, I can totally related to Budd's whining about gold. Throwing the baby out with the bath water so often it seems.

Re: Fed damaging bond market

Luckily enough, before the Fed announcement, I sold deep ITM calls on the remaining of my TLT holdings. At $117.50 I sold $115 calls. TLT has now dropped below $115.

And the market completely reversed yesterday.

Wow.

Re: Are most people here sticking with Treasuries?

Skyrocket is a relative term I guess. TLT has been pretty good dropping like a rock, and ...slowly... rising. So far, I have gone multiple weeks thinking I would get called out, instead being able to rewrite on a weekly expiring basis. It'll end at some point, which is fine. Then I'll write some put...

Re: Are most people here sticking with Treasuries?

I still have some TLT that I am writing calls on, but yesterday I converted all my 401k based long bonds to DIPSX, (https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/DIPSX?p=DIPSX) which is available in my 401k and seemed a good compromise for now. I still have my physical gold at about 20%. I am down to <6% in stock...
