Re: Fed damaging bond market
Damn, TLT cannot catch a break! Not even a peep of a relief rally for even a day for the whole month of April.

Re: Fed damaging bond market
I do not know. These options have expiration dates, so would added time be tacked on when reopened? Maybe? Worst case is you get assigned the shares at the strike price you had. You should never sell options on stocks you wouldn't want to own, so you just bought some stock maybe, is the other possib...

Re: Fed damaging bond market
There definitely is a mental attitude shift going on with me and this put selling. I really am liking not holding anything long term, and the puts I am holding can be rolled if they go against me, for credit, not like buy and hold where you are pretty much limited to watching the ups and downs and ...

Re: Covered calls and Cash secured puts in TLT, GLD and SLV
I have been writing covered calls on TLT for most of the recent drop. It certainly doesn't capture all the loss, but certainly buffers it. Just today I closed 123 strike calls, opened 122s, closed 122s, opened 121s, and likely will close those and open 121s for next week. Since I started TLT option ...

Re: Fed damaging bond market
If you've looked at my options posting, I have converted about 33% of my net worth to cash and am selling puts. The rest I still have in a PP configuration, but yeah, i finally got a little tired of esp. holding GLD without seeing any income.

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II
I felt the need to post because of the alternate universes some of my buddies continue to live in. Since we own gold, one of my go to sites for articles about it for years has been 321gold.com. But I haven't gone there lately basically because of a disinterest of reading about it day to day. But I d...

Re: Fed damaging bond market
It is unfortunate that at any timescale/starting point from 1 day to 20 years (to today), TLT has severely underperformed gold and the overall market. I still hold it, yes, but damn it's been painful for the past few months. I am definitely worried in trying to tame inflation that all assets are goi...

Re: Covered calls and Cash secured puts in TLT, GLD and SLV
Monthly update. Options accounts current returns since Jan 3, -0.69% Same accounts as they were in B&H PP would be -4.63% Only reason I am negative in the options accounts is I have yet to get rid of the TLT shares they hold (I have some covered calls on them now that should get them called away...

Re: The GOLD scream room
Oh, I'm not selling my physical....but I am selling puts on GLD to create income, which so far has been working well. This has been able to turn gold into a productive asset, finally for me. And one, when it drops, I actually get a little excited about because drops are perfect times to sell puts. C...

All Is Well!!!! Buy stocks. Interest rates going up! War? Hah! Gold is useless!
This is so typical of the past 14 years I have owned this yellow crap.

Re: Covered calls and Cash secured puts in TLT, GLD and SLV
The past couple weeks with Ukraine have been interesting. I have been able to take advantage of the ups and downs in GLD, SLV, TLT and SPY to get in and out of cash secured puts and covered calls at a (so far) 100% success rate with nothing needing rolling yet. Maybe it has something to do with watc...

Re: The GOLD scream room
Hmm. This is now a good problem to have! Most of my gold is physical. How do I actually take advantage of this? Am I buying puts on GLD as a method of rebalancing?

Re: Covered calls and Cash secured puts in TLT, GLD and SLV
Well...at least short term, my segregating accounts for option writing had me pretty much getting all into cash into two accounts, and still pretty much in cash in those accounts. Total across accounts I am 41% in cash and 21% in gold, 17% in bonds and 21% in stocks. Not a bad thing given the past f...

Re: The GOLD scream room
And while I sometimes think tech analysis and charting have some value, if gold drops tomorrow, the line will be redrawn like below, and your breakout moves to summer. https://i.imgur.com/bGC1L04.png And there was also I'm sure a previous chart that connected these two tops...so your breakout should...

Re: The GOLD scream room
Murph, being a big time gold owner since 2008, I would like nothing better, but gold always digests gains, which it now seems to be doing. It seems exceedingly rare to have multiple up days in a row.

Re: The GOLD scream room
My prognostication, Ukraine deintensifies yet again, and the markets go way green tomorrow and gold goes back to being unloved, at least for a day or two.
That has been SOP for years. Sure, it could change today.
