Re: The Desert Looking Glass portfolio?
unfortunately the link just takes me to Morningstar's front page? Could you repost it? As for the pension...I won't vest for a couple more years, so I wonder how my psychology will shift once I know that I've got it in the bag. Even though the percentage is small at first just knowing its coming wil...

Re: The GOLD scream room
It's of course not possible to attribute gold's rise in the 2000's with 100 percent certainty to the availability of ETFs for the first time. But there are reasons to believe that the ease of investing in gold electronically with no thought to transport, storage, etc. had something to do with the d...

Joypog's regularly changing AA (originally "The Desert Looking Glass Portfolio")
This post was originally titled "The Desert Looking Glass portfolio?" but since I keep changing my prospective Asset Allocation every couple weeks, I thought I'd retitle to more about me >:D . I've been on a slow trend towards becoming more and more aggressive with my potential portfolio ...

Re: What kind of inflation are we experiencing?
working in the construction industry we certainly have both. Supply chains are all gummed up and China's zero-covid policy isn't helping....but there is still plenty of liquidity in the market that wants to get shit built (though I fear how the recent shocks in the stock market might affect how thin...

Re: Next up on the planned crisis list
Hey thanks for that link! An interesting read. I think it depends on market size as well as to what happens. The hedge funds are likely involved in mid to larger cityscapes. For small town America the papers have just been closing down. It's a super tough business to be in now and a lot of people w...

As I've been researching the heck out of all these portfolios I've been settling into the Golden Butterfly (to be slowly averaged into over the course of this year). The one thing scratching at the back of my head is the lack of International exposure...which lead to this overlapping mess of equally...

I don't think I've seen a place like this that gets so unhinged over news. Internet tips: You do not have to click on click bait and you can chose not to consume news of any kind. Completely not surprised about BTC...gold hasn't blown it out of the water but it has held. BTC, not so much. Down worse than the market by a fair amount. Don't know jack about crypto, but I've heard BTC is more corrolated to high flying tech stocks than gold. Does that make any sense? In any case,...

William Bernstein on Cash holdings (T-Bills)
Just listening as I work so I haven't listened to the whole program. 14 minutes in, Bernstein mentions that safe assets should be held as T-bills (as opposed to bond funds) and that Buffet holds 20% in bills.

Interseting. So in a "normal" year an american eagle wouldn't be significantly more expensive than something like a kruggerand?

Makes sense. I think your warning is also well taken. I had settled on the PP last week, but as I sat with the decision, I also came to the conclusion that it is a bit too conservative since we are in our early forties, even though my wife and I are terminally cautious. So a bunch more reading over ...

Silver Coins - why are eagles marked up so much?
I'm looking at buying a small batch of silver coins. Looking around I noticed that the 1oz Silver eagles are significantly more expensive ($36) than the others ($30) with the spot price currently at (edit) $23.

Re: Golden Butterfly Portfolio
My simplistic way of potentially dealing with rebalancing a GB (which is just a HBPP + 20% VB for me) was to track the HBPP portion separately and when the HBPP portion hits a 15%/35% limit on any of the HBPP assets I would rebalance everything back to a GB allocation (20% in all 5 assets). My rati...

Overseas Gold? 2022
Yup, I've dug through the archives. From what I can tell Perth seems like the easiest option for foreign storage. I was just more curious as far as how many people actually follow through on holding / storing gold outside of the home country. If calamity hits, it would be nice to think I have a nest...

ps: That's why I like the GoldSmith portfolio. Instead of seeing the individual assets classes swing widely, you just see the price of Gold & VDCO. Much better if you have a weak stomach for volatility. ohh I dig the idea. It's an elegant process when the novelty wears off and I don't feel like...

Maybe it will be fools gold. Hard to say. Unfortuantely we'll only find out in 20 years.... It won’t be. The pp is has no glitter. O0 It’s all about stability and robustness, and not squeezing every last % out of the principal. For that there is stock options and leveraging, sports betting etc. Yes...

Re: If The Stock Market Crashes Which Asset Will Save Us?
Fair warning. I think we'll have to just try it and find out. What I do know is that a decade of feeling that I should just do a a 60/40 bogle split resulted in keeping us at 70% cash during one of the great stock runups in history..fortunately inflation was low during this time so we weren't punish...

Re: good references for estate planning?
Thanks for the link! Looks promising. I'll start with the freewill (and the health care proxy) this weekend.
I'll check out the book...but most likely just borrow a few books from the library to get and overview of the field and then convince my wife its time to get a lawyer involved.
