Re: US Legislative Majority after November 8
I think it's going to be a Dem bloodbath losing both houses with continued failures in state houses. Also, Trump will declare by the end of the month (which will persuade Biden to run again). And everyone who is happy about the result (any result) tomorrow night will be sorely disappointed by this t...

Re: Treasury Bonds (Auction vs Secondary - basically a wash?)
Depends. Municipal, USG or commercial? Your post slightly points to USG bonds. Assuming that is a yes (or no), there may be some tax implications. Let's assume you bought a bond during ZIRP days which was yielding .25%. It is most definitely selling at a discount to par now. Yes, thank you for clar...

Treasury Notes (Auction vs Secondary - basically a wash?)
I think it's been covered plenty in the past, but I'm moving a decent amount of money around for the next couple of years so I thought I'd ask one more time before pushing buttons around. From what I've read, there is no real difference between buying US Treasury Notes (2 and 3 year durations) on th...

Re: The Fourth Branch of Government
I think the term "my body, my choice" is not a good one and is very misleading for an abortion discussion regardless of which side of the debate one is on (but, is there ever really an honest non-political discussion on the topic?}. It neglects a major fact that there is at least one othe...

Re: The disinformation scam and other threats to free speech
Anyone following directly, comrade. I watched streams from multiple sources. And also with my own lyin' eyes, saw the overflow hospitals in LA county never used. Just go directly to the most sensible bottom line: pandemic theater to distract from the inflationary bailout was worth it. Minimum wage ...

Except for the Canadians, including the guys at Rational Reminder podcast, who say it was NOT a peaceful protest.boglerdude wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 8:46 pm Alternatives such as. Re: Upgrading from Iphone 6s to Iphone 12 - anything to be aware of
the phone works fine, but they want to make sure I keep up with the latest security updates. Which Apple does not want to create or support for their older operating systems. As I said it seems like their operating systems go obsolete much faster than do Windows operating systems. Yeah...but that s...

Upgrading from Iphone 6s to Iphone 12 - anything to be aware of
My office is upgrading my phone tomorrow. I have an old Iphone 6s, which runs fine, but is no longer supported in the latest iOS updates.
Anything I should be aware of when I get my iphone 12?

Yeah I like John McWhorter. I sometimes call myself a John McWhorter Democrat. He's a bit less alarmist about Trump than I am, but otherwise, we're pretty much on the same page - still voting Democrat because the GOP is unacceptable but unhappy about the excesses of leftist, racial, and gender radic...

Re: The Fourth Branch of Government
Everyone's made up their mind on how much of a threat the US gov is to them. 70% of people want to be paid to stay home, and will never understand inflation. There's no stopping the improvement of surveillance and control technology. I'm wondering how freedom and civil liberties were ever celebrate...

Re: Do you still use your library?
My problem is that I'm really good at wanting books...but not very good at reading them after purchase. It's not easy to guess what future-me will want to read when that future-me becomes present me. I got boxes of books in the house to prove that. Hence the recent limit...which frankly is most like...

Re: Do you still use your library?
I assume all of you have the same thing that I have -- an interlibrary system wherein you can take books out of one library and return them at another? And, order books and pick which library you want to pick them up at? That's correct, my library system is countywide so it has a wide reach. We als...

I use the library all the time. We have Overdrive / Libby as well as Kanopy and Hoopla. All great online resources.
Used to go physically al the time before COVID, but have pretty much stopped that since we're living carefully....which is a shame cause I love buying their super cheap used books.
