Re: The Left is eating itself

Yeah, I'm enjoying reading Reason magazine again. They've been complaining about Biden's executive orders and proposals nonstop, after throwing their hat in the ring to endorse him. Nice example of buyer's remorse there, too. Seems that there's a lot of that going around these days. So what, exactl...

Re: Biden’s Courageous New Vaccine Strategy

I think these conclusion is just a wee bit off. If you have fragments of a virus present, then you got exposed at some point (maybe months previously), so the test is correctly telling you that. Not an "overcount". The issue is that tests are being misused. A person who is not remotely inf...

Ha, pp4me. They're only just getting started with that. Did you know that if you voted for Trump, you are now officially considered a white supremacist and domestic terrorist? Even if you're black or Hispanic? Not us of course....we don't do any such thing here, right guys? And we are all registered...

Re: The Left is eating itself

Have you all noticed that every single article on vaccine hesitancy avoids the issues that most people are concerned about (long term side effects, insufficient testing prior to distribution, rare but potentially serious short term side effects) and instead focuses on how it's all down to blacks and...

Re: Poll: Which asset will be the winner in 2021?

I don't remember which years, but bonds won multiple times in the past several.

Cash has won several years in the PP's history. But yes, mostly it's been stocks. Gold depending on economic scenario.

Re: Breaking News, Politics version

Okay, so we started at 40% who believed there was fraud, now we're down to 33% who believe there was net fraud in the Biden direction. It doesn't say anything about there being sufficient fraud to swing the election, which would be yet a lower number. Actually, it's 33% who believe that "fraud...

Re: Breaking News, Politics version

It's over. Trump is done. I think he's sealed his fate. There will be no 2024 run. At this point, he may not even make it as president to Jan 20, 2021. I think Trump has an even stronger chance of not only running in 2024 but of actually winning in 2024. Polarization of the populace works both ways...

Re: SS & the PP

Not in favor of considering SS or pension income as part of an allocation, because you don't have direct control over it and certainly can't use it in a rebalance. I just regard it as an income source that reduces what the portfolio needs to provide. I wouldn't be comfortable relying on, say, a 100%...

Re: Breaking News, Politics version

It was clearly Trump's words -- quoted in Corto's post-- that drew this mob. However, I think they're going to cause trouble this year after Trump is out of office. Well, then what about Kamala Harris' words, egging on violent BLM actions? Why wasn't she called to account for that? The double stand...

Re: Breaking News, Politics version

Of course breaking into the Capitol building and committing any kind of violence is unacceptable. But the easy and intellectually lazy response is "it's all Trump's fault". As often happens with these fast-moving events, it will take time to discover and understand all of the details and ...

Re: POLL - What will Pence do?

I think Trump is just a bull in a china shop, and couldn't clearly articulate why the problems with the election should have been investigated. From what I've read they absolutely should have been - and there will always be a taint on the outcomes of this election. Including the Georgia runoff. So y...

Poll: Which asset will be the winner in 2021?

We run this poll every year. Gratifyingly, the winner has proven to be dead wrong in almost all cases. Let's see what we got for this year - put in your vote! I'm guessing stocks because: No-brainer if President Trump stays in office. This isn't terribly likely though. If Biden is inaugurated, Wall ...

Re: 2020 Permanent Portfolio Return Poll

Huh. I got 11.7% for the GB, and 16.7% for my Bogleheads 60/40. I suspect that has a lot to do with buying a pile of SCV fund shares at the worst possible time, plus some revert-to-the-mean effects. I got a 20.8% return in 2019. I think this is just peachy, thanks! Happy to stay the course. So now f...

Re: New iBond rate 1.68%

Just FYI.....

There's no need to buy I Bonds until the end of the month, because you get credit for the entire month of interest no matter when in the month you buy.

Of course, it's not like you're going to miss out on any significant amount of interest by doing that this year.

Re: Member requests banning and removal of all traces

While I agree with you Xan, and acknowledge that something probably needed to be done, I would point out that a 4 hour/post limit is tantamount to a complete ban. I don't think that's true, it just requires some extra thought and planning. My first choice actually was to have the 4 hour/post rule a...

I would not be retired and living peacefully off of the PP if I had not encountered this forum 10+ years ago. Say WHAT???? When did that happen?? The "Budd" I knew was terrified of the PP because of the gold and because it didn't perfectly track the stock market. I thought you were going ...

Re: Wealth Transfers

So I have another argument for Social Security not necessarily being a wealth transfer. It's effectively a government-run pension plan that you are obliged to join. So the young are paying not just to support the old/retired, but for their own future retirement. It's just that Social Security was se...

Geez, and here I've been quoting WHO meta-analyses that show things like community mask-wearing having at best a minor impact on the spread of flu, which spreads similarly to COVID (literally in one study....all the others showed no effect). Re: Vanguard Treasury Fund

The reduction of treasuries to 88% is a bit worrying though, if you're using it as a convenient alternative to T bills. Fidelity's Treasury MM (FDLXX) remains 100% Treasuries, but it's now closed to new investors. Glad I have it. The 0.42% ER is still listed, but the 7 day yield is still 0.01%. with...
