Re: Birthright citizenship

I just saw a graphic on PBS Newshour stating that ICE did more deportations in 2024 than in any other year since 2015. So, I guess that should be balanced against what technovelist would call TDS.

Re: Reneging as a form of negotiating

... So how can any country confidently come to an agreement with the United States in the face of a pattern of reneging on agreements and moving goalposts when it feels like it? If you were the other country would you do it? Maybe if you had no choice you would do it, but then would you start worki...

Re: the accelerated permanent portfolio

I say this with peace and love but there is nothing permanent about your investing strategies. It's always the next big thing.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's adapting to new information available!
But permanent, it ain't.

You originally stated it as a question, without certainty: "Didn’t Harry Browne approve of the US outsourcing manufacturing?" Now you are stating it as a certainty? ... That's right. That was before I had a beer. I was expecting a yes to my question. O0 I am 100% certain. I just don't kno...

it isn’t about holding them to maturity, it’s about under the right circumstances they act as fighter cover and if they are. up enough you sell some off It turns out there’s more than one strategy out there, mathjak. But of course, you’re right. That’s why the pp has rebalancing bands. I was just r...

… Then you can hold to maturity, capturing the term risk premium without paying for it in risk of uncertain outcomes. I love holding shorter-term bonds to maturity and getting my money back, especially when stocks are tanking. BUT, what if you have a portfolio in which you’re supposed to hold very ...

I suppose, Dieter. I just think that if we compare every form of heavy-handedness to Nazis, then “nazi” loses all meaning.

How many times in history have the conquered people been granted the rights and privileges of citizenship in the conquering nation, merely because they had been conquered? Such a thing is a very new idea.
The Romans did it (eventually).

The Russian conscripts are cannon fodder, for sure. so are many Ukraine conscripts. I’ve asked this before: aren’t the Ukrainians in this because they want to be? Not because the Americans or British or Germans asked them to be. I’m not speaking of the hapless low level conscripts but of Ukrainian l...
