Re: The cars we love/hate & the cars we may buy.

I have always used Turbo Diesel Truck (prime mover) oil in every vehicle owned. Petrol or diesel. Have done over 1 1/2 million K in total and every Toyota engine was fine. 1st Car - 1976 Falcon wagon - swear it was dipped in salt water before coming of assembly line. 2 engines in it both lasted only...

He purchased a big 4WD after that fright. Pickup had 800,000K on it before its demise. 800,000!!!!!!!!! I don't think I have driven that miles total in my over 50 year driving career! Vinny Yep, 800,000K - Had the 3Y engine in it. Was still running perfectly up till its last day. Did oil change eve...

Re: TV speaker replaceable?

Further and finally, when I asked the mechanic if a new car would be safer, he said consider the car is made of a lot of steel rather than plastics in modern vehicles. The compression is down 10% and the transmission is tired. Alas. In 4 years I may get a Tesla. Still, I would consider getting it r...

Re: TV speaker replaceable?

Hmm.. Try plugging in a set of headphones/speakers and see if the problem persists. If so, the issue is probably on the main circuit board amplifier section -> new TV time If not, try looking at the internal speaker connections. Very rarely do speakers fail. Used to be an electronics tech many years...

Re: TV speaker replaceable?

It appears my 40 inch diagonal Samsung TV has developed a cracked speaker. The unit is 10 years old. Can a repair shop replace the speaker easily? Are there such repair shops? Thanks. Quick question, what makes you think the speaker is physically cracked? Can you actually see it? Friend recently ha...

Re: How Does Fixing the Gold Price Create Inflation

There won't be two different USDs at the same time. If they actually do issue a new one with gold backing, they will cancel all the old ones. BTW, the new one would have to be 100% backed and the backing validated by a third party for anyone to believe it. As for the "crime of '73" (https://www.usm...

Re: How Does Fixing the Gold Price Create Inflation

I'm just trying to understand Rickards' position. What is it about pegging the gold price at a high dollar amount that would cause inflation, at least in his mind? I still don't get it. I must be dumb. I don't think bakers value their materials and labor in grams of gold. Maybe I have to buy one of...

Re: Any downside to bars?

My source: People who survived WW2 in Europe :)

Gold was a store of wealth to restart their life "after" the war.-> Coins/bars OK as life had returned to normal.

Silver "Coins" for trade during the war -> Any display of excess wealth (Eg, Gold) was dangerous.

Re: Time to replace Macbook Pro?

I would suggest having a look on eBay to find the average price of your MacBook.
If the repairs will cost more than half the market price, then look at replacing.

Re: Most Secure Way to Reasonable Hold PP Assets??

I am drawn to the idea of holding a basket of 30 individual stocks. But how do you go about doing it without bias slipping in? Either because you don’t like a specific company for whatever reason or you have a bad feeling about an industry etc. And once you start stock picking then you may deviate ...

And my portfolio total. Problem is, I think of it in US$ first and then convert to gold using the spot ...

While I can afford it, that is a lot more money than I'd was considering spending if ONO are anywhere comparable to American $$$$!

Coming from a rural area myself, wind generators used to be very popular. Due to much overcast/rain during winter, solar panels were not very practical. (plus very expensive back then) Just did a quick search on a brand that was common around here. https://www.oocities.org/ibssinternational/dunlite....

Retirement fund blocks access to funds

Is this happening in the USA or elsewhere?
