Re: Figuring Out Religion
moda, Once again I thank you for a very civil discussion. I'll give a couple of more comments, then perhaps Desert can chime in. I benefit from his posts, and I hope you will as well ... honestly! 1. Please read "What They Need to Hear" by Klemet Preus. It goes into quite a bit of evide...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
Another story that indicates "I am my own god, I am what I put my trust in, I am what is important" and it seems our culture has made significant progress on this in the last ten years.

Re: Figuring Out Religion
Mountaineer, I didn't really think you were hearing "voices," but I can see how my posts maybe make it sound like that. I figured it had to be some sort of surging presence inside you that revealed "The Truth." Not just words from a book, but an actual experience. A "fee...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
Mountaineer, I don't mean "feeling" as an emotion per se. Revelation is an observation of a perceived potential reality that only you experience. Of course, others may experience something similar at a different time (or the same time), but it is still something that has to work through...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
moda, Believe it or not, I agree with much of what you say and heartily respect your right to see things from your perspective. Probably my main disagreements center around your use of "feeling" (or emotion?) and your discounting of the concept of obtaining knowledge by revelation, possib...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
I can't continue this conversation in a civil manner. I am unable to have someone ramrod their beliefs down my throat and tell me that I am going to suffer external damnation unless I buy into their wacky set of beliefs. Your idiotic religion is why mankind will continue to slaughter each other lon...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
These Christian ultimatums make me despise the whole religion. If you decide you are "man enough" (sorry, that was the sinner in me trying to get your attention) to read something that may open your eyes and allow you to let something in to your head other than your preconceived view of C...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
These Christian ultimatums make me despise the whole religion. Truth hurts. You appear to be focused on yourself and your feelings, not the promises of Jesus. Are you big enough, open enough, caring enough, to do something about it ... to invest a few months of Sunday mornings in a truly Christia...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
If God is just he wont punish me because I'm incapable of believing in him. If he is that petty then I would prefer to be sent to hell....I really mean that. I cannot respect a God who would condemn the majority of mankind to hell because they don't accept Jesus as their savior especially when they...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
The funny thing about me is that the Christian concept of eternal life sounds like torture. I really hope that when "I" die that my soul disappears....this is more similar to the idea of liberation from the wheel of samsara. Unfortunately, your choice is not an option. There are only two...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
Morality doesn't exist in the same way that gravity does. I can violate moral laws with abandon and there is no proof that anything will happen to me, yet if I violate the law of gravity and jump off a bridge I will die 100% of the time. I think this example is enough to prove the difference betwee...

"We shouldn't do what is wrong" . . . . It's a true statement of fact. Thus, we should not do what is wrong, we should not act in a manner of behavior that is not in accoradance with reality blah blah . "We shouldn't do what is gobbledygook". I realize we do not have a commonly...

Seems OK this morning. Must have been the NSA evesdropping on the forum conversations via my computer - processor overload. You guys and gals better get ready for an audit from one of the TLAs.

Web Pages Loading Very Slowly Again
Maybe it is just my setup, but for the last day or two the web page and various topics are loading VERY slowly again, almost as bad as a month or two ago before craigr and/or medium tex addressed the problem. Anyone else having the issue?

Re: Why people don't believe scientists predictions of doom....
No one claims that CO2 is a pollutant....that is a strawman. It is however a gas which plays an important role in regulating the temperature of our climate. I don't necessarily think it is a bad idea for scientists to study this....we spend about 2 billion dollars a year on climate research. That i...

Re: Figuring Out Religion
I just finished reading an interesting book, "What They Need to Hear". It might be of interest to Christians and non-believers alike as it discusses miracles, history, and how to converse with a dying person about topics of importance. It is a quick read. The author has an interesting w...

Re: Why people don't believe scientists predictions of doom....
As far as environmental regulation I think it's important to remember how bad things were getting in the 60s and 70s. Industry and local municipal governments were dumping toxic waste with abandon into rivers and lakes all over the country. I just talked at length with one guy who was responsible f...
