Re: Intellectual Property (IP) & Theft

I provided several dot-point examples in one of my recent posts of ideas/inventions that could be considered as IP. I'd sincerely like to see some of you quote that section and provide your opinions on each of them as to how you think they should be treated, and your justification/logic for each one.

Re: Intellectual Property (IP) & Theft

The devil seems to be in the details, and I guess that's why a court has to decide. And that's one of the big problems with IP. Proponents of IP laws want to say that "it's just another type of property." But it's not like real/actual/physical property at all. If it was, we could define v...

Two Pet Cats Have Tested Positive for Coronavirus and We Don’t Like This One Bit https://www.themarysue.com/coronavirus-kitties-oh-no/ I was actually thinking the other day that my wife goes to extreme lengths to keep our Amazon packages "quarantined" for a couple of days, then removes th...

Re: Intellectual Property (IP) & Theft

Because your child is not a brand and you're not prostituting him/her out for profit in any way, shape or form. I think you're getting caught up on it being my child. What if it's my name? Maybe I change my name to some new word I've invented. I should get to own all rights to that word and prevent...

...So naturally millions of people pay only the $2, and I get nothing after putting my blood, sweat, and tears into the movie. Are you saying that it is okay for the third party to do that according to natural law? I'll give you the short answer: "Yes." A longer answer, is that I feel lik...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Vinny, here's the full Dog vs Cat op-ed: EV8CHN0XQAAmZvp.jpg That is hilarious. Found the text at the WSJ. I didn't read it until after I posted it. I think the idea was clever, and it was a mostly-funny read, but I suspect the author has never been a cat owner based on this quote (written by the c...

This is exactly what I pointed out. Vinny She got a forgivable loan. Her employees hate her for it. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/smallbusiness/she-got-a-forgivable-loan-her-employees-hate-her-for-it/ar-BB132POb?ocid=spartanntp Great read. Yeah, that sucks. Re: Intellectual Property (IP) & Theft

In order to decide if something is moral or not, one needs a source of absolute right and wrong that almost everyone agrees upon. What is that in this case? hint: It’s not the bible O0 As I mentioned before, I like to use the term "natural rights" to avoid conflict with atheists, etc. Tak...

CT, I sincerely appreciate your considered and deliberate responses. It makes contentious debate so much nicer. How many places can you find good solid debate at this level? Well done. Re: Intellectual Property (IP) & Theft

I use "right" in the same way Harry Browne did. As in they don't exist in any form. The only "rights" you have are the ones you have power or influence to make happen. Thus, knowing that I can't prevent thieves from trying to steal, I acknowledge that this is part of the real wo...

Re: Intellectual Property (IP) & Theft

And one more comment on my earlier rant on IP theft... I don't think it matters one way or another whether we can all come to agreement on what is right or wrong or moral or immoral. It's irrelevant. Morality and legality don't even factor in. I fully acknowledge the right of low life scum to try a...

Re: Why Left Supports Lockdown?

The comments about Social Security seem off-topic, but we've never let that stop us before here, so I'll just chime in briefly... I recognize SS as being a Ponzi scheme. It's also been shown that a lot of the higher-earners put more in than they will ever get back out, and a lot of lower-earners end...

Re: Intellectual Property (IP) & Theft

I've been a software developer since before that term was invented. I'm not sure if this comment was meant to imply some greater experience-level on your part, or not. I'll try not to read into that too much, other than to say that I graduated with my Computer Science degree back in 1993, so I've b...

This isn't just a theoretical issue to me, by the way. I'm currently in negotiations regarding several software inventions that I have invented over the last several years. Re: Why Left Supports Lockdown?

The people who tend to oppose the lockdowns are those who have an established job or career that they still depend on heavily (i.e., retirement isn't yet a good option). Especially if remote work isn't an option for them. I think it's worth breaking this group into two. As you stated, the ones in t...

Re: Intellectual Property (IP) & Theft

I never said I had the right to someone else's money. I said that another person didn't have the right to profit off of my time and money. Those are two entirely different things. Your "time" doesn't have any inherent value, except to you. If it takes you 2 weeks to make a table, and I ca...
