Re: Kat Klub

This past Saturday we noticed our two cats fixated in front of, and peering under, my A/V rack. My initial thought was that they had gotten one of their toys stuck under there. I got down on the floor (causing my cats to leave the room), flashed a flashlight under it, but the gap between the carpet ...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

What about delivered groceries??? I went for another grocery run yesterday. I got home and wiped just about everything down with single Clorox wipe. Part of me wondered if using a single Clorox wipe for everything was "good enough" but I figured it was probably much better than 90% of the...

Re: Asset Allocation in the Most Painful Month

This certainly looks quite impressive when you compare the PP to the 80-90% stock-holders (that seem oddly prevalent on the Bogleheads forum these days), or compared to numerous other recommendations. But at the risk of sounding like someone "peeing on the Cheerios" wouldn't a more-perfect...

Re: Is this the best website/forum for me?

CT-Scott, would you consider yourself libertarian leaning? I think I touched on this in my original post in this thread, but I can be pretty verbose, so I'll try not to be too offended if you (or others) skimmed past some of that. Yes, I definitely am. In fact, I sort of describe my philosophy as &...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

I have what my doctor calls mild sleep apnea. I tried a CPAP machine, but even after a month I found that the machine and mask disturbed my sleep more than helped it. As a part-time employee I don't have any medical benefits that would cover it either. Sadly, mine is supposedly not "mild"...

Re: An inexpensive, easy to fabricate, ventilator

I just posted this in the main Coronavirus thread, but then spotted this thread, so I figured I'd repost it here... After many months (years?) of my wife nagging me about my snoring/apnea, I finally gave in early this year and got a CPAP machine. I'm ignorant about ventilators, but had the idea the ...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

On the bit of good news side...someone in my hospital got the brilliant idea of figuring out a way to put two patients on one ventilator. They're testing that now and plan to push it out to general use in the next few days. I'm sort of new here, and I haven't read this entire thread (and probably w...

Re: Is this the best website/forum for me?

One thing I hadn't thought to ask directly until now...

Seeing as PP was invented (?) by Harry Browne, and he was a known libertarian...does it follow that a large percentage of the PP community are also libertarian-leaning?

Strategically taking a 401k loan and/or no-penalty withdrawal

I'm not sure if this is the best subforum to post this to, but it seemed like this one made the most sense. So, in case you haven't heard the latest news/rumors: Congress may let you take $100,000 from your 401(k). What you should know https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/23/congress-may-let-you-take-100000...

Re: Kat Klub

You ALSO have a classic black cat! I love black cats. Seeing your black one from behind could fool me thinking it is one of my two black ones. Yes. Like yours, she's got a white bib. Our two cats are supposedly sisters (we got them from a rescue when they were kittens), and they used to like to snu...

Re: Kat Klub

Do your cats make those funny chirping or chittering noises as they stare at animals outside? Yes they do (I think just with birds)! And it's funny because I don't remember any of the other cats I've ever had (and I've had several over my lifetime) do that. But we're out in the woods here, so they ...

Re: Portfolio safety in extreme cases

Speaking of HELOCs...I just applied for one. I had been thinking of doing that for a while, but didn't need the money. I still don't need the money right now, and I'm not worried about my (or my wife's) job security, but ever since I sold all of the stock in my 401k I'm finding myself in a cash-hoar...

When I saw this thread was 3 pages long, I expected to find a lot more photos inside. Oh well, here's one of my two cats eyeing a chipmunk outside:

Re: Is this the best website/forum for me?

I'd pass on PRPFX personally and just go with the simple 4 x 25 setup. Sorry if this is better explained already somewhere in these forums (if so, and you or anyone else can provide a link, that would be appreciated), but I'm curious how one can practically apply a PP or Golden Butterfly Portfolio ...

Re: Is this the best website/forum for me?

Thanks.

Looking at PRPFX, that seems to be down a little under 20% for the year, and a little over 20% since 2/21 (when the Coronavirus crash started). Are there potentially some really high dividends that offset those losses? Or is PRPFX just a really poor take on Harry Browne's PP?

Re: Is this the best website/forum for me?

Your first instinct is spot on! Yeah, around here during this recent market crisis, what have we been doing? Discussing the Coronoavirus and talking about cats. O0 You don't see those kinds of massive losses and panic like in that thread. Gotcha! Thanks for clarifying. OK, so there are probably var...

Re: Is this the best website/forum for me?

Well, I guess I have my question answered as to whether this forum is overly-moderated. It didn't take long for this thread to get derailed into a discussion about cats, and the mods haven't stepped in to delete any of those comments. Maybe I'll be wishing for *more* moderation later. ;) 1) You will...

Re: Is this the best website/forum for me?

Great replies! Keep 'em coming. So when I first started my initial post, I originally started to put it in the main "Permanent Portfolio" subforum, but then after clicking into this forum and reading the stickied FAQ, it seemed like this subforum might be the one where I'd get more likemin...

Re: Is this the best website/forum for me?

Thanks for the warm welcome Vinny! And a fellow "cat person" too! :) I'm curious what the general demographic differences are like with this forum's members compared to the bogleheads forum members. I know that there's probably a very wide range of age, income, etc. over there, but it felt...

Re: Is this the best website/forum for me?

Thanks for the replies! That's good to hear. If anyone's bored, they can take a look at the thread I started (which was later locked) that discusses what I did in response to the coronavirus concerns. The thread turned into a multi-page thread and there's a lot of clutter with the back-and-forth amo...

Is this the best website/forum for me?

Hello everyone, I used to be a member here a long time ago, but it looks like my account got deleted, likely from a change in forum software at some point. My old account name was "Scott R". So I signed up anew. But I'm not entirely certain if this is the "best" forum for me, so ...
