Re: Optimal Diet

Your experiment had too many variables and no control. As a child, your oral hygiene was undoubtedly inferior to present, and as you admitted, you ate lots of junk compared to low carb (main driver of decay) now. Interesting comment about carbs and tooth decay. By "carbs" do you mean mostly sugar? ...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

So, a vaccine to confer immortality is offered. People who want it take the vaccine. Some people don’t trust or want the vaccine. The people who take the vaccine are immortal. The people who didn’t take the vaccine eventually die. I wouldn't trust a vaccine claiming to confer immortality. Sounds li...

Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

Thanks. It has now been almost 23 hours. The only thing I still have to report is I can feel pain in the area of the shot only when I lift up my left arm, which made choosing that arm to get it a good choice. I also got it in the left arm and had pain when I lifted it up. But I had that before I go...

Re: Hello old friends

Very interesting bringing Wellesley into the discussion. My first exposure to the PP was a heated debate on another forum (not Bogleheads) about the superiority of Wellesley to the PP. On the PP side were none other than Medium Tex and Craig Rowland. Both sides had good arguments but I ultimately de...

Re: Optimal Diet

What is it about carbs that cause that unique sort of craving for them? I can eat a sauteed asparagus omelet with cheese and feel perfectly full, but even so there's often an urge to top it off with a muffin or toast. When under stress, it's carbs that do the trick. My hypothesis is that carbs have...

Can you explain why Georgia needed a new set of laws when there were no documented consequential voting fraud but with these news laws ...

Since the thread has already been hijacked in favor of home repair I'll add my two cents worth. Last time I called a professional was last summer when my A/C unit in the garage starting leaking water. I wasn't surprised at all when the repairman told me it was time to buy a new one because that's wh...

Re: Does anyone om know anyone that is even sick?

I'm having dejavu, somedude? Was this just a way to pop this topic back to the top, just restating the original? Probably was and my answer is still the same as before. I don't known anyone who has even gotten the virus, let alone got very sick from it. The closest I came was a barber who said she ...

Re: Mlb partisanship

By population, roughly half the country is right leaning. And even among the left leaning, not everyone agrees with wokedom. It seems to me that corporations sticking to what they do best and staying out of the political fray altogether would be the smartest play. And that goes double for professio...

I had no noticeable reaction to the second dose at all. I've heard that is fairly common in older people, a weaker immune system being my best guess as to why. I had a mild reaction to the first one so I couldn't help but wonder if the second one was even working. My wife is a med-tech and after eve...

Re: Drawdown phase of a PP in retirement

Take from cash first to avoid tax implications. Then rebalance when cash reaches the bottom of the band. If your income is low enough you can sell stock without any taxes. I managed to do that in my first year of retirement while I was delaying SS to age 70. Sold enough VTI that year to pay cash fo...

I feel really powerless to boycott any of these "woke" companies though I would like to. I don't drink coca cola, don't watch baseball or basketball. I did mostly boycott the NFL last year even though I'm a lifelong football fan. Couldn't resist watching the Super Bowl however as I live in the Tampa...

Re: The Bond Dream Room

No idea how minimum wage became part of a discussion about Bonds but for my two cents worth, minimum wage laws are about competition for low paying jobs and most of the laws on the books are intended to favor labor unions by limiting competition. Which is why Democrats overwhelmingly favor them, of ...

Scott Adams said on his podcast the other day that a house in his neighborhood sold for $500k over the asking price, which was originally around $2.2 million. He lives somewhere outside of San Francisco from whence are coming all the buyers looking to get away from the city. After selling their home...

Ron Unz of the Unz Review believes there is strong circumstantial evidence that the Chinese were correct in claiming that the virus came from the U.S. A. having been intentionally released by American soldiers who were present in Wuhan. I would file this question away along with the Kennedy assassin...
