Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

Have you introduced foods to your fiancee that she never had before? Besides XO sauce.

Re: Daily "Check In" Thread For Us

O0 Hilarious! I would break out if I did that. Then again I break out if I have peanut butter rice. Or soda. Or any…food O0 You have a lot of food sensitivities? I recently found out via blood test that I’m lactose intolerant. I’m currently cutting out dairy to see the effect. Bye bye cheese. 🧀 :( ...

Gold Items On Sale

Not to be confused with the ‘Best Deals Right Now in Gold.’ This is not the best deal. There’s a French 20-franc rooster coin on sale at Apmex.
I usually stick with 1 oz bullion for investments, but I’m tempted to have one or a few to add to the collection.
Does anyone own a rooster?

5) I like the idea of cryptocurrencies and wish them the best. I just feel that governments are going to work to introduce their own versions and will ban all these other ones in some way to make them worthless for all practical purposes to the average person. This got me wondering how I feel about...

One thing I like about "The Forrest Portfolio" is that forests have lots of diversity... get it? ;D
And unlike gardens, they need far less management (tinkering) than people think.

Descaling the coffeemaker and trying not to inhale those nasty chemicals. It’s the most excitement I’m going to have all morning. You gotta do instant coffee! :D I like the name change! I do enjoy instant coffee when not at home and I’m not a total coffee snob but.. freshly ground beans, Smithers. ...

Re: Occupied Land acknowledgements

When did acknowledging that your institution is on “Located on Occupied and Unceeded XYZ Ancestral Homelands” become a thing? Is it anything other than empty virtue signaling? I’m reading ‘The Identity Trap’ book which details how various concepts made their way from fringe to academia to instituti...

Re: Why Value?

… I did hire an FA (Jon Luskin, who these days hosts the Bogleheads podcasts) for a one-time review. The value of it, for me, was pretty much entirely for non-portfolio stuff: things like making better use of HSA's for health insurance savings, re-thinking our Social Security claiming strategy, etc...

Re: Why Value?

Wouldn't just a small cap (without any value tilt) allocation accomplish the same thing? I share the sentiment of wanting to tilt away from megacap growth stocks, but not the belief in value premium. Well, some see small cap growth as something to avoid, as it has the greatest share of companies mo...

ADDING to the above so that I don’t keep editing: What I mean is, if you individually bought and held the Magnificent 7, you would of course get dinged when one of them invariably slides. If you buy the total market, some unknown that you never would have thought to buy is going to grow to become p...

Do you tilt to value, Kevin? I guess you adopted the Golden Butterfly. Did you tilt to small cap value or just value before Tyler invented that portfolio? TSM or Total Stock Market is just a mirror of the market, is it not? If Apple is a large part of VTSAX it’s because it’s a large part of the mark...

At some point, the number of surly bogleheads grew too great in number for me to bear. And, if you respond to them the moderators treat you like you’re part of the problem.
Just ignore them, Smithers. Surf for info and never post there.

Why Value?

Harry Browne eventually moved from a collection of Growth stock funds to the S&P 500. A lot of pp’ers seem to like value stocks. I am still partial to value stocks. ^-^ Every once in a while, I look at the performance of growth stock funds and value stock funds versus VTSAX, Vanguard’s total domesti...

What do you guys like to do for fun dates when you take your spouse out? Dinner and movie is nice, but it's overdone. Anything off the beaten path you guys like?
It’s not off the beaten path but my favorite thing to do is to take walks together.
