Manufacturing jobs growing at fastest pace in 23 years despite Obama telling us that they were "never coming back" and "Trump doesn't have a magic wand"... (or does he?) https://www.marketwatch.com/story/heres-why-manufacturing-jobs-growth-has-been-so-strong-2018-08-03?siteid=big...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Another one I'm sort of dumbfounded by is the almost complete silence of national debt hawks and inflation hawks. You hardly ever hear about that stuff anymore. This issue is DOA for the time being. Who knows how the experiment ends, but there is going to be no serious budget reform for the foresee...

I think a 15/15/70 portfolio would be much safer.

15% stocks / 15% gold / 70% bond ladder.

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Can you lay out for me how exactly you see the "deep state" as being a phenomenon that started under Bush I? To me, it's been firmly entrenched at the very least since the post-WWII period, if-not earlier. Yes I would agree, which is why I said "probably has much longer than that, ba...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Well, Putin is not only a strong leader (the Russian people LOVE strong leaders), but he's the epitome of a strong, NATIONALISTIC leader. And, more to the point, he's the only significant force pushing back against the western corporate oligarchy as it marches forward in its quest for western hegem...

Re: is the retail bubble bursting?

The REIT's and commercial real estate investors I work with have been getting out of retail for the last 12-18 months. The writing is on the wall and outside of some companies that swoop in and get some steals for pennies on the dollar (likely from banks at that point), there won't be a lot of appet...

Wow, I don't even know what to say. The FBI has sunk to a new low. Zero credibility. They planted a spy in the Trump campaign. Re: Trump as tragicomedy

And yet the talk of impeachment continues unabated. The nation's so-called elite just can't get over the fact that somebody like Trump won the election. Frankly, I can't believe it either. It seems utterly surreal. And I'm one to believe he's not a monster, just another run-of-the-mill egomaniac, a...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Good point ... the list of candidates was spectacularly horrible. I knew when I found myself rooting for Ted Cruz, something was terribly wrong. What a shit show. We had a Bush, a Clinton, a Trump and a McAfee, all in one rotten campaign cycle. I hope to never hear any of those names again, in the ...

Neo-con? Me? Omg no. Much more of a Ron Paul guy. If it was Ron Paul vs Hillary (or fill in the blank Democratic Socialist), I would vote for him in a second. At the moment, the Libertarian movement is on life support and not politically viable. I'm about 90% convinced that in the last election, Ga...

Re: Trump as tragicomedy

Hopefully better spelling. Is this what the anti-Trump argument has come to? In a way, this is what the anti-Trump argument has been about all along. As you know, the election represented a clash between, on the one hand, those Whites and Asians who have tended to go to college (allied with Blacks,...

So with the blow up I’m retooling what I was going to track/post on here. I’m thinking 20% st vol was a bit much. :-) I’m looking at something Golden Butterflyish. Selling vol will still be a part of it but looking at different forms. Could be just a switch to SVXY. Kbg, you probably covered this i...

Re: Is the PP going to hold up?

My personal opinion is that gold is going to explode up soon. Of course timing is never easy and I'm talking over the next 5-7 years, I see gold out-performing stocks significantly. In my business, I see costs skyrocketing. -Construction costs on commercial projects are 20-25% higher than they were ...

Early retirees who use welfare to fund their early retirement during prime working years, are just that..... welfare recipients. You have to have a pretty low amount of pride to do that IMHO.

Re: 20 Years Old Hits the Mega Millions

For practicality's sake, I would probably have no more than $1m in physical gold and use ETF's for the rest. I would also have no problem replacing half of the "gold portion" with REIT's and/or NNN properties.

Re: 20 Years Old Hits the Mega Millions

Would you advise him to put it all in the Permanent Portfolio? Just jump in? I sure would. I might tell him to tweak it slightly by increasing the cash amount, so maybe 20% Gold, 20% stocks 20% LTT and 40% cash. Real growth to his portfolio is pointless (in my humble opinion). As long as he can pac...
