Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan

I wonder if some people will make their own "COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card". It's just a piece of business card weight paper. Anyone can fill in the blanks. After my first dose, my patient number is not even filled out. The place name for where I got the shot is just an acronym. Not very hard for...

Re: Mileage taxes, carbon taxes

In theory the libertarians endorse use and consumption taxes over income, estate, & wealth taxes. But when push comes to shove, who knows.

I am at the point where any new tax scheme seems to be more about just finding another way to tax people, in addition to the existing ones.

OK thanks. Just making sure I got your drift. Yeah, there are two schools of thought for sure. So far I have not had to deal with the question.

I'm not convinced that the best defense is to declare everything even if you don't have to.

I want to make sure you meant that the way you typed it.
Or did you mean that the best defense IS to declare everything even if you don't have to?

Perhaps one of the biggest things we can do to maintain some semblance of privacy is to use cash payment at retailers. I only use cash in restaurants / bars. By keeping cash alive, at least a small amount of privacy can be maintained.
That and not carry a phone with you.

Tom, thanks for the exhaustive list. That's too much for me to do, but I am going to think about how I could apply the 80/20 principle to it.

Re: Reducing 401k contributions now for tax flexibility later?

All I know is that I found a service to run my numbers through their black box, and in the long run it paid to defer as long as possible taking income from retirement accounts. I realize that is not what you are asking. I'm not sure I see why you wouldn't take the tax deferral while you can. It soun...

Privacy

How concerned are you about privacy? What things can a person do right now to protect their privacy? Do you feel that "I don't worry about privacy, because I have nothing to hide?" Is that the same as, "I don't care about freedom of speech, because I have nothing to say?" It seems like the smartphon...

Re: Colorado Grocery Store Mass Shooter

If you are still alive after firing 200 9mm shots in a STHF scenario, you're doing a lot better than the average bear. ie 200 rounds is not a trivial amount. Just think of places in our lifetimes in which civilian gun ownership could have made a huge difference in averting tyranny. There are many. H...

Ridiculous. One was a peaceful protest, the other was an insurrection. If you can’t tell the difference then you shouldn’t be in public service. As a life long democrat i imagine you see an "all lives matter" sign as a symbol of hate. On the local news the other day on some story about businesses r...

Re: I need to buy some gold!

Would you consider something like BullionVault, which has storage in Singapore, Switzerland, etc? You can have your holdings in specific reserved bars (by serial#) vs generic allocated storage, if you like. I'm not affiliated, but am a customer. I'm looking at their website now. Storage fee is only...

When you depend on the beneficence of others, you are owned by them. (Which still applies when "others" is your government.) They can lament about this all they want, but when times are tough for everyone, this is what is going to happen.

Re: I need to buy some gold!

Even stating the foreign location is more risky is an assumption about conditions here on my part. Yes. We Americans are pretty blind about things like this. I would place the USA as probably not even in the top 5 of desirable places to vault one's gold. From my limited reading of course. But off t...

It was always my intent to visit them before doing this, but Cayman has been closed due to the Wuhan for a year, and I could not wait any longer. Re: I need to buy some gold!

I don't think I should go into details on that here, but SWP made all the arrangements. The shipment was fully insured. The cost worked out to about 0.5% of the value of the coins. That is about the same as you pay them annually for storage. But this is way cheaper than selling them locally, then h...
