Re: I don't think this worked out as she expected
Reminds me of our local TV station that frequently broadcasts Crime Stoppers crime reenactments. A convenience store robber viewed the "reenactment" of his crime and assumed they had caught him on store cameras while committing the crime. He turned himself in................

Re: The GOLD scream room
It seems that about every three days there is a "should I own gold" thread on that forum. It's like going on a firearms forum and asking "should I turn my guns in to the government". Bless their hearts, they mean well but it's the same old answers over and over. I remember the lo...

Re: The GOLD scream room
Seen on the Bogleheads forum. Too good not to share. ;D "Are bonds worth it?" "yes of course you have to be diversified!" "Are negative yielding bonds worth it?" "yes, for the diversification value. Yield is not so important." "Is gold worth it?" &q...

After looking further I think you are right. 28% is max and if you are in a lower marginal tax bracket than that, you are taxed at your ordinary income rate based on "last dollar of earnings". thanks. This is why I use a CPA. Tax talk makes my eyes glaze over.

Re: Bullion markup
It's definitely crazy and happening here in Canada for sure. Heck, it's worse than markup, as most dealers are actually just sold out. I figure a decent stopgap measure is to put the money you have earmarked for physical gold into an ETF until your local dealer has supply. At least that way you get...

Starting a PP in 2020
Suppose someone showed interest in starting a PP today, and asked your advice. Certainly the equity and cash positions are not an issue at this time. Equities are certainly volatilie right now, but that is always an issue. LTT's are experiencing the highest price in 20 years. Appears they have very ...

from my experience with millennial's - over hearing their conversations- i lean towards thinking that they are not likely right about anything, any attempt at communication so peppered with the word "LIKE" that it renders the thought expressed incomprehensible, is probably not clear think...

Re: Bullion markup
ETF's were exactly what I was thinking. I've watched firearms go through this same cycle based on current events, and eventually things calm down and prices revert to norm. Is GLD still the ETF of choice? There's a firearm ETF? Wow, that sounds great! With the volatility in that market, it may be a...

Slab City California Terlingua Texas Both are effectively free zones. I've been to Terlingua. I can't say that I noticed much government but then I wasn't thinking of moving there. Any semblance of government in Terlingua ended upon the death of Clay Henry, the Lone Star beer drinking goat that ser...

Re: GOP defending Confederate legacy?
Good one, Simon. It is so eerie how "1984" is coming to life all around us. I'd say that the guys pulling down statues are doing it for exactly the same reason that they looted stores and broke windows: it felt good at the time and they're lashing out because they're frustrated and angry ...

Bullion markup
I've noticed popular dealers marking up one ounce gold coins from $100 to $150 over spot. Many bullion coins are out of stock indicating a strong demand because of world events. If I'm not mistaken most markups in the past were around $50 per coin. Will we see these markups again in the future, or i...

Re: GOP defending Confederate legacy?
You know what Doodle, you may be right. Maybe it is just in bad taste for people who don't like these symbols/statues etc to have to see them on public property. Maybe I've been reluctant to give an inch because a mile will be taken. (As if my opinion matters, which it doesn't, but arguing about th...

Re: GOP defending Confederate legacy?
I think at the root of all of this is that many people don't want to live in a truly 'diverse' society.. I understand that. I know that a great deal of cultural diversity can create tension. But let's be scientific about this and discuss our honest beliefs about the functionality of the American me...

Re: GOP defending Confederate legacy?
So, am I to understand that as soon as we burn all existing Confederate flags, tear down all civil war statues, rename all schools relating to civil war heroes, things will be instantly better? Apparently, we will feel better about ourselves for trying to cover up things of the past that should have...

Re: Another angle on the recent events in America and the world
Am I the only one here that thinks part of the reason the rioting has gotten so out of hand is bc of the Covid lockdown? I agree with Scott Adams that this has set the progress of Black back 10 years. But doesn't take much to make people snap under the conditions we've been under. I’m with you Pug....

Re: Another angle on the recent events in America and the world
Whether you are pro-firearms or anti-firearms, I just can't imagine any means by which the U.S. population would be disarmed. It's not going to happen. Maybe at some point, after we're all long gone, they will prohibit the sale of bullets, and they'll have to be bought on the black market. You may ...

I don't feel we have heard the last of Hunter Biden and Tara Reade just yet. Seems it would be to the RNC's benefit to have these issues reemerge again in say........October maybe.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but PBS is streaming Ken Burn's "History of Baseball". Nine 2 hour episodes. Excellent watching.

I don't use the classic PP allocation but use a modified version. For those that were at or close to 25-25-25-25 at the first of the year, what are the YTD returns as of today? Just curious.

Gold spot price
Why is it that at any specific time the spot price of gold will differ depending on the source? I can simultaneously be watching the online dealers and one of the cable business news shows and get a different spot price. The online dealers are usually fairly close to each other, but at today's prici...
