Based on what? Democrats finance projects via taxes. Republicans finance projects via debt.

Have you considered buying T-bills in your brokerage account?

Re: Winkelvoss Capital says Bitcoin is a 10x better inflation hedge than gold
Men working to start a bitcoin ETF promote bitcoin. I don't completely dismiss Bitcoin as an upstart alternative currency. But I will say that if the only points in the section "the problem with gold" are asteroids and the third-best Die Hard, then I'm not too worried about gold in my lif...

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
If I'm understanding you correctly, you're talking as though cash is a fixed variable against which the other three assets move. In recent years, due mostly to zero or near zero interest rate policies, this may indeed have been the case for practical purposes. But in principle, the Permanent Portfo...

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
It's all relative. We only care about the 3 major assets being correlated/uncorrelated (stocks, bonds, gold).
How can you measure their correlation to the value of cash when they are measured by cash?

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?
Well I suppose the act of re-balancing forces you to sell the expensive asset(s) that have run up in price and buy the inexpensive asset(s) that is probably out of favor. Unless of course, all of the assets are moving up together which has happened before, in which case you would not be re-balancin...

Re: Stay cool...
Hi pp4me, By opportunistic rebalancing, I meant I hit a rebalancing band (15/35) during the crash for stocks on the low side since they crashed so harshly (almost -35%). Completely mechanical but it requires paying attention to your portfolio balances, especially during times of high volatility. No ...

Hi Craig! Thank you again for your site and book.
YTD results are even better than shown on ETF Replay due to an opportunistic rebalance during the crash . PP is feeling pretty bulletproof.

Re: The Bond Dream Room
Aren't low rates just the result of asset price inflation -> the same that has been seen in stocks, gold, real estate, etc.? Why should the bond bull market be over but bull markets?

Vinny, not trying to offend anyone. The forum became almost unusable for a while sole...

Hi Corto, how did you get peaktotrough.com to give you data for 2018? When I go to the site, it shows the last date for stocks and gold is 10/31/2017 and the last date for bonds is 12/08/2017. The site just hangs indefinitely when I try to use a date after these.

Interesting point! Another advantage is that it reduces rebalancing frequency. I'll consider implementing this on my next rebalance.

I could put all my money into the Horizons Risk Parity ETF (HRA) found here: https://www.horizonsetfs.com/etf/hra This ETF is an All Seasons/Permanent Portfolio/Risk Parity type allocation all in one fund. It would certainly keep things simple, but the total expense ratio is way too high at about 1...

Do those results include your personal port which includes 5% XIV? Does this not mitigate some of the issues you described such as lowering portfolio level volatility?
