Re: Farmland
It was a stunning podcast. What I found really interesting, is that they had a really unfortunate situation where they bought a farm, which was subsequently to be rented out to a farm company managed by two men. Then within a year, both (!) of them died and the company was about to go under. So Davi...

Congrats! In certain Reddit subs related to this topic, it's customary to wish you a hearthy GFY https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gfy . I remember studying asset allocations on Tyler's site, and thinking, "Who is this Desert guy and why has he earned the right to appear here?&quo...

Be sure to configure the SOCKS proxy for your torrent client. If you don't, and the VPN unexpectedly drops connection, the torrent client will continue and your IP will be visible once more. If however your VPN provider offers a SOCKS proxy, it offers an extra level of protection. Privateinternetacc...

Perhaps I don't understand something, but given your current allocation, shouldn't you simply buy stocks and forget about what the pundits say?
Nobody can predict the future. That's why the PP was invented. Just stick to the strategy, it was designed so you don't have to make these decisions.

What's funny is posting such a historic scenario on https://www.reddit.com/r/financialindependence/ or https://www.reddit.com/r/investing/. Your comment will get downvoted although you simply posted a fact.

Re: New bond ETFs are very helpful
This is extremely interesting to me... "hedged to local currency" here means that the forex risk is hedged? I.e. you don't run currency risk when you hold this ETF in euros? I suspect this is a costly affair? This may be a solution to the exasperating problem that we Europeans have, with t...

Yeah, this has basically everybody worried. When I started my portfolio last year, I also had severe doubts: https://www.gyroscopicinvesting.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9082 For everybody outside the USA, it's even worse than sketched. I'm from the EU and after a lot of hemming and hawing, I started w...

Awesome, man. I've used KDE on and off for almost 15 years on the desktop. Now I'm on macOS due to iOS development, but still have a soft spot for the Linux desktop.

you have 50K in CD and 7k in 3 ETFs? 25K absolutely cash (in a savings account) 25K in a CD 10K in 3 ETFs why do you maintain such a large cash position? Main emotional reason, I'm a bit of a nervous guy ;D I've always worked for the man, very stable job and all that. I started contracting a couple...

European PP, update 6 months after starting
Some time ago, a forum member asked me how my European PP was doing. Since I owe so much to this forum, here's a little update. First of all, I'm in the experimental phase because until recently, I was still saving. I'm a contractor and this means no social security in The Netherlands. Since I have ...

Re: What is the "store of value" in the PP
Please note that I'm relatively new to investing. and cash rarely delivers a "real, inflation adjusted" return of any significance, Looking at this article: https://portfoliocharts.com/2017/05/12/understanding-cash-will-make-you-a-better-and-happier-investor/ I believe the author (username...

Re: the Thankful Investor (Tyler)
It's a good one, thanks for posting about it. I'm only just starting in my investment journey, but ever since, I haven't really worried. Part of it, is that the PP prescribes a nice fat wad of cash. While other investors are worrying about how much they should keep cash, I can just stick to the 25% ...

Re: EU-PP whilst buying a house.
Well, it all depends on the numbers, on your risk appetite, and very importantly, on any partner's taste in this regard. Let me sketch my circumstances, and perhaps we can draw some parallels for yours. I own a house, its current worth is 350k. Over the years, I've moved money towards the principal ...

Re: Benefits of State Marriage
Absolutely true. So here's the $500 question. Knowing this (and what man could possibly NOT know this by now), why do men so willingly enter into this situation? I think it's because changing this requires a prenup. This is not the default situation. People are often unwilling to change the default...

I'm from Europe (The Netherlands), and the culture around marriage is definitely different. About half of my friends and acquaintances get married, the other half lives together. Of those who married, they often took their time; half of those married after their first or second child. There are fina...

If I understand correctly t's 2,50 euro a year for each exchange? I choose those ETF's because they were lower cost than most other comparable ETF's. I read some of the discussions about eurozone bonds and for me the combined duration of a LT bond etf and a savings account still seems reasonable to...

I'm using DeGiro (custody account) for now. Great, I have an account there as well. Any reason why you're using GZUR and not PHAU? The reason I use PHAU is that it's listed on the Euronext Amsterdam, so you don't pay the yearly fees for keeping a fund on a foreign exchange. As for bonds, I use iSha...
