Re: The Bond Market Sweet Spot
I was kind of thinking along the same lines Smith. How has a total bond fund compared with a barbell of long bond and cash. Not a crazy difference: Screenshot 2023-10-06 5.05.16 PM.png Portfolio 1 is total bond fund, Portfolio 2 is barbell with annual re balancing. No re balancing was a little worse...

Re: EU IBKR: Cash yield enhancement program
Thank you for the insight seajay. It sounds like a difficult environment to save in. I found the NS&I website while googling how to buy UK bonds and the rates look to be quite a bit lower than what I would expect. I am not sure what to compare this service with. It seems like it might be similar...

Isn't 67/33 Stock/Gold even better than 50/50 Stock/Gold though?

Re: EU IBKR: Cash yield enhancement program
Interesting. It sounds like we are spoiled in the US with how easy it is to buy treasury bills directly or even how easy it is to shop around bank savings accounts. Is it not so easy to buy euro bills or find good savings accounts with a bank around Europe? It is hard to put myself in the shoes of b...

Luke Gromen getting into TLT and rising interest rates.

I need to listen to it again to wrap my head around it some more.
I will just stick with 25% GOVT for now to be more cautious.

Re: TLT cracks $90
Thoughts? In short, I am happy I moved to GOVT instead of TLT . Other than that, I am trying to process what is causing higher interest rates. The only thing I can come up with is less liquidity to purchase the bonds but I don't know how or why. Somehow money is getting destroyed and lowering liqui...

Re: Jeffrey Gundlach on PP
Yeah. The most specific thing was treasury bonds for bonds but it didn't lock in a duration. This is what I took article as saying he is in with 25 % in each. High yield short term bank loans for cash Value stocks including international value 10 to 30 year treasuries. Maybe some high rated corporat...

Gundlach still really close to permanent portfolio. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/gundlach-fears-a-recession-here-are-his-low-risk-income-generating-investment-picks-454d1f8a He recommends 25% in every category but has a bit of tilt to each category which would take on more risk. How to Buy Gold (Without Getting Ripped Off)
How to Buy Gold (Without Getting Ripped Off) Rob Berger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p2Jwt9VZDU Good info on buying gold from a boglehead type investor. Mostly he recommends sticking to ETFs inside of retirement accounts which I have come to agree with but he also has reasonable advice to use A...

Re: BTC in the PP
I was not aware that the US Federal government treated bitcoin differently than other cryptocurrencies. I expect that would be a huge advantage for bitcoin. Is this something different than how the IRS treats it? I did a quick google and found the IRS site for digital assets which I don't see differ...

Re: BTC in the PP
I now think of bitcoin as a company like Visa or PayPal that you can buy directly. Once the dust settles I don't see it being more valuable than the largest companies in the world based on the service it offers. If something else comes along that can provide the service better then it may be reduced...

I decided I like the ETF method better myself. I am using SGOV in some accounts and what is now TBLL in others. Here are a couple of reasons for me. When I was buying small amounts of treasury bills on the secondary market I wasn't sure I was really getting a good price with the spreads and low volu...

That makes sense to me.
Credit Karma does list the utilization rate as a top contributor to your credit score.
That response it had makes me wonder if it is plagiarizing that information. Something that may be needed for ChatGPT in the future is citations.

https://www.ishares.com/us/products/239468/ishares-us-treasury-bond-etf I chickened out on long bonds after holding a small time this year without losing anything thankfully and replaced them with the GOVT etf. It holds treasuries from 1 to 30 years based on market cap so it would hold more long bon...

I am not a member but I believe they are $1900 and oz.
I am not sure how this is possible unless Costco is somehow subsidizing the price.
