Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II
Good questions. I was wondering how he could say “well stocked” and gold catch on Molotov cocktail comment. I’ll ask. Plus it seems a little strange that m-cocktails can stop army. Let’s see what he says. It could have been something in the translation or his English, I was just curious. Molotovs c...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II
Here is a post from a friend who works closely with someone in Ukraine - apologies if it’s offensive. Just thought it would be good to see some unfiltered real time impressions I have felt very close to Ukraine this past month. I work with some IT consultants in Ukraine and my closest contact staye...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine II
It's very tough to figure out what's really going on on over there. The information/psychological operations being run are pretty effective, and are force-multiplied by well-deserved low trust in news companies and the government. Ned Price's press conference being a prime example. That said, my sen...

So... is your signature dis information, or mis information then? ETA: I originally thought you were mocking "fact checkers" and had a good chuckle. Very disappointing turn of events :-\ O0 This is the 2nd time I’ve disappointed you in as many months. I didn't remember another time, but T...

Re: Bank Bonuses
I was thinking about the question as jhogue posed it, but my understanding could be off. It seems like a certainty that someone will have cold-storage bitcoin in 30 years (if only because they forgot about it?). On the other hand, products from the Treasury have a track record of being discontinued;...

Re: Bank Bonuses
Which do you think is more likely to be around in the same form 30 years from now, bitcoin or I-bonds? Hmmmmm. I think I'd go with bitcoin here, TBH. You could be almost certain that there would be someone hodling bitcoin in 30 years, but I-bonds depend on the US Government continuing them in their...

Re: Electric Vehicles and Tires
Forgetting about the numbers/facts for a second, I have to admit that I really, really like regenerative braking. That's a beautiful thing, compared with wasting all that momentum in brake pad heat. On the other hand (I may be wrong here), electric cars can't coast. I have only bought cars with a m...

Re: Electric Vehicles and Tires
Side note: Teslas are extremely expensive to insure compared to a similarly priced gasoline car. Repairs are apparently costly and they will often total the car if there is more than minor body damage. The insurance is one of the things that give me pause about buying one. I'd say insurance costs a...

Re: Electric Vehicles and Tires
The "greenest" vehicle is probably a small, gas-powered, boring hatchback that is replaced very infrequently. I think that's right. Well, it doesn't need to be a hatchback (a small 4 cylinder sedan is just as "green" as a hatchback but not as functional). I also think frequent r...

From what I understand, Erdogan is trying to reduce Turkey's dependence on foreign capital, mostly from the Eurozone and the US, who he blames for the 2016 coup attempt.

More than 1 million fewer students are enrolled in college now than before the pandemic began. According to new data released Thursday, U.S. colleges and universities saw a drop of nearly 500,000 undergraduate students in the fall of 2021, continuing a historic decline that began the previous fall....

Re: Logistics of Large Quanties o Physical Gold
If folks on this forum had 7 figures to invest in Gold (Hypothetical Amounts). - Would you have it in Physical form? Yes. - Where would you store it? Some at home, some in safe deposit boxes. The wine-storage also sounds like a smart idea. - How do you make it liquid (preferrably nearly as liquid a...

Re: What's going on with silver?
I thought This Time Is Different was really tough to get through when I read it many years ago. IIRC, there was an article I came across afterwards that claimed there was an error that they made to arrive at their conclusions in the book. I think it was a spreadsheet error. Yes, 10 seconds of intern...

Very interesting article. It's like there are two currents in it. One, in which the degenerate Westerners turn their backs on their own culture while enabling foreigners and outsiders to gleefully tear it down So far, these articles are in agreement Moreover, [Wang] says that the “American spirit i...

While I guess piracy could affect brick-n-mortar stores resupply as well, it doesn't directly affect the consumer. Another con for online shopping.

I don't get why you'd think buying I-bonds is trouble. It takes maybe 10 minutes a year to do.
