Re: Flu Vaccines: Scam Central

It also appears  http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/disease.htm  that flu infects more people than MG stated, with relatively severe effects including a lot of deaths and hospital visits.  To me, the benefit of the vaccine far outweighs the potential of adverse affects.  To each his own however. ....

Re: Budgeting & Cash-flow Controls/Strategies

Very, very elaborate.  Simplest system I think, is to decide how much of your net paycheck to give to charity, then how much for your savings - do that.  Then spend the rest on anything you like but when it's gone, no more spending period until the next paycheck.

I know a couple of people who almost died before the polio vaccine was common practice, and heard of far more who did die. I knew a LOT of people who died from smoking and car accidents.  I'm outraged (at the people who think zero risk is either desirable or a reality - my definition of risk include...

Re: Fantasy Low Crime City = High Taxes / Few Social Services?

I understand the intent here.  I get the idea of minimum responsibility filters that come with being able to afford to pay a certain amount.  But I personally reject the basic assumption that rich people are automatically better to live around, and I'd likely pass on the large scale gated community...

Of course, and don't call me Shirley! (Mountaineer, it's a play on trying juveniles as adults, combined with the racial bias in our criminal justice system). For those of you who are agnostics, or discard the concept of faith in a God that cannot be proven, I have a question.  I'm making the assumption you do have "faith" in arithmetic and logic, hence my question.  How do you reconcile the Peano Axioms and Gödel's Undecidability or Incompleteness Theore...

However, all the generations after the baby boomers have grown up in a proportionally faster and more nimble world, and I think they're more psychologically prepared for it. Even though the pace itself may be grueling, if you're raised in a world where a grueling pace of change is considered normal...

If I ever get back into camping I would sleep in a hammock. Off the wet muddy ground, protected from bugs and critters, can put mosquito net up and rain tarp to stay dry. Light to carry and pack and can be insulated to stay warm. No desert camping for you!  I guess that means you really are a tree ...

My wife forwarded this to me; it's a Reddit thread in the "change my view" section in which someone postulates that the entire field of economics is basically politically-driven bunk and asks for economists to try to change his view. Pretty cool discussion. Here's a snippet from the top response th...
