Re: PP Safe Withdrawal Rate?

@EdwardjK

Are you answering to me or to @murphy_p_t ? It is totally not clear.

If you are answering to me. No, I am not concerned, I just asked a simple - and hopefully interesting - question to which your answer is not really an answer ) But thanks.

What are some good personal finance books esp. considering the UK system?

Most books have a US orientation and I have heard most of them even if I obviously haven't read all. The same thing over and over. Ramit Sethi has a separate UK version of his book besides the US version. Besides him, what are some recommended books for 1. the UK 2. OK, or in general / the US as wel...

Re: Fee-Only Advisors - NAPFA - National Association of Personal Financial Advisors?

In the interest of full disclosure, I actually thought about setting up an advisory firm in the past. In the interest of full disclosure, I opened the topic/asked the question because similar thoughts have arisen in me as well. I am from Europe. I am thinking of advice for international clients. Re: Crawling Road blog post - Permanent Portfolio Performance and Historical Returns

I don't think I put Sharpe/SD in that post. I'm not a fan of Sharpe/SD as they are misleading in terms of actual risk. And mostly I don't talk much about these risk measures because they are rearward looking and sometimes project a false sense of security. Over time the common measures tend to miss...

I don't remember the Sharpe ratio being on there, but this might help: http://mebfaber.com/2013/07/31/asset-allocation-strategies-2/ I very much like this graph. Re: Question:The Shockingly Simple Math Behind Early Retirement | Mr. Money Mustache

Referring to the chart: If your savings rate is 20%, then if your investment return is 15%/year it will take you 20 years to amass enough money to retire.  At 6% return, it will take almost 40 years.  Retirement is calculated as portfolio total x investment return rate >= spending rate pre-retireme...

Re: How does an investment company like Berkshire receives incentives from clients?

Unless you bought AAPL in an IPO (i.e. on a primary market), Apple doesn't see a dime of what you paid for their stock.  When most people buy stock, they are buying in the secondary market.  In the secondary market, I buy from you in hopes that the price will go up: I hope to reap some reward when ...

Re: How does an investment company like Berkshire receives incentives from clients?

OK. I understand why it is good for a 'real' company to buy a stock in them, such as Apple: they do research and development from my money, expand and sell more stuff. Easy. But how about a holding company? What is their benefit of me buying their stock? Let's assume here they only own stocks of oth...

To further clarify my question: if I buy BRK-A or BRK-B which is a stock made up of other stocks, how does Mr. Buffett & co profits from me buying given portfolio packaged as BRK instead of me going out picking the stocks together one by one just like they do?
