Re: China Govt Digital Currency
A government digital currency is inevitable and the invention of Bitcoin probably expedited this.....from a government standpoint its perfect....tracing and taxing every penny sent, controlling the supply, freezing user accounts, .....its a government god send. for bitcoin....The question arises.......

Re: Rethinking the Permanent Portfolio
When any crypto begins to wrack up serious transaction value, governments will be involved. Anyone who does not believe this I think is delusional. This I agree with....the question becomes WILL they do anything about it? - If yes, ....CAN they do anything about it? - - Government CANNOT control Bi...

Libra is pegged to US dollar. (AKA not a gold replacement) Facebook will be the bank. Government will regulate / have oversight over facebook as they are subject to money transmission rules and somewhat accountable for their users actions. (KYC Regulations) They are a better PayPal now. (maybe) &quo...

He's not "normal" in many ways which gives him a HUGE edge as an investor....1. has a photographic memory, 2. reads like 80% of his waking hours (like earnings reports..yuck). I simply cannot compete with this....nor would want too His overall playbook is rather simple though.....I use for...

From my understanding......Gates originally liked the idea of BTC, then later shunned it......not sure of his stance now. Seems like recall reading something recently that Microsoft is buil...

Re: Time to Return to the Gold Standard?
1. I'm saying inflation does not of itself discourage savers unless a positive real rate of return is not achievable. No doubt negative real rates do happen from time to time and that does tend to discourage saving (or so we thought...but now we have negative yielding sovereign bonds.) 2. "Res...

It might be simpler to forget gold/bitcoin, and first wonder what would happen if the Fed disabled their (digital) printing press Good idea... thought experiment!.....Rules 1. so gold / bitcoin never existed before as currency nor will they. 2. US government made mandatory tax payments be collected...

Re: Time to Return to the Gold Standard?
1. Wrong. That's why we have "real" interest rates. Without real interest rates no one in their right mind would save anything. And this does not change in a fixed monetary system. 2. Why did you duck answering the hardest question I put to you? Read up on on the 1930s and provide the ans...

If you think coming up with an alternative form of money will bring liberty you are seriously deluded and need to read more history...power will come to it and take it over. Re: Time to Return to the Gold Standard?
All forms of money have value solely because people believe it does, including gold. One of the best, most innovative podcasts I've very listened to is Freakonomics "Why Gold?" Highly recommended. no doubt....value only lives in our (people's) collective mind. Competing currencies to the ...

Can you elaborate more on the comment about gold ETFs having insufficient reserves? I've been wondering for quite a while about the wisdom of trusting them, but they claim to be fully backed up by physical gold. Perhaps rehypothecation?.....I heard on podcast a while back where this issue was more ...

Re: The GOLD scream room
As long as Central banks print money to cover bad debt and buy gold reserves ....gold will still have its place imo. I've always found that interesting about non-gold believers…how they gloss over the fact that banks print funny money (for the people) and buy gold for their reserves!? If central ban...

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
I've always found it a little weird that Bitcoin could both serve as cash and as a wildly speculative investment. I just figured that it was going to have to stabilize before it could mature into a legit cash vehicle. Sad to have missed the initial joyride though! Yes I agree. Exactly! Bitcoin pric...

Re: Bitcoin investors are running from the crypto to invest in gold
It has nothing in common with either gold or cash other than that some people believe it has value, which can be said of virtually anything else as well. YES!.....exactly!....nothing has value as a universal law....(the universes doesn't give a **** about any of this or your personal rights to life...

I like the idea of what it was originally intended for, just a frictionless medium of exchange. As an investment or store of value...most vendors and individuals simply don't accept it. It's like it was made primarily for ransomware. I was not soley intended as a frictionless MOE.....it was designe...
