Re: COVID Cases Sharply Declining: Why This Is Worst Case Scenario
I get colds and have trouble with them. No job and no kids at home. None during the covid period yet. From now on, when "there is a bug going around", I will be masking, avoiding stores, and washing hands. Usually that's only a few weeks in early winter.

Re: Texas: all hat no cattle?
You do realize, if left alone, Texas would be the 10th largest economy in the world. If Texas were to secede, keep all of the taxes sent to Washington, you think federal aid would ever be needed? Texas has been a "recipient" state rather than a "donor" state since maybe 2017 or ...

Johnson&Johnson vaccine
Is the J&J vaccine of the old fashioned variety? A lot of people say it will be a game changer. Why? Because it's a single dose? But it's less effective. Should I prefer it to the mRNA ones? edit to add: Just found this article answering some of the questions. https://vitals.lifehacker.com/whats...

We did a Roth conversion for 150K, and it cost a lot in increased medicare premiums. Ouch. Sometimes you beat the system and sometimes it beats you.

Re: The Left is eating itself
The San Francisco Board of Education, after voting to erase names from its local schools such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, is now trying to decide if a gay, white man with a multiracial daughter adds enough diversity to a parent committee of women. As long as they keep Drag Queen Story...

Re: Conservative's Neighborly Gesture Causes Angst, "Moral Dilemma" for Leftist
I think we’ve had the question asked here, “US soldiers wouldn’t fire on us, would they?” Well first the tyranny has to demonize the opposition. Nazis did it to Jews. We did it to the Branch Davidians. Then in both cases, killing them was the right thing to do. Now they are demonizing Trump voters. ...

Re: The ethics and practicality of walking away from low-money down mortgages
As a practical matter for Stinky, if you bought a house you wanted to live in for a price you found reasonable, why wouldn't you just keep paying your mortgage in order to live there? And forget about the market value? Or was your idea to hop from one short-term living arraingment to another, and s...

Re: It’s Time to Talk About Violent Christian Extremism
The western world owes its civilizations and tolerant societies to Christianity. I'm not much of a Christian but even I can see that. Contrast the tolerant mainstream Christian view with the intolerance of the atheist left. Big difference. Yeah, gimme Christian society any day. Even the evangelicals...

Re: Safe Withdrawal Rates
Why, in a world of near zero interest rates, should a 4% SWR hold up? How many of the study periods were at such rates? I’m a big skeptic when it comes to basing investment on past performance anyway. It’s informative, but you need to try to relate it to the here and now. A few months ago I posted t...

Re: ITT's or modified barbell?
I go back and forth on this. Cash is supposed to be for tight money. That’s a laugh in this new world banking order. So I don’t care what anyone does with their cash portion. LTTs have done their deflation job quite well. Hard to make a case going forward. To me a five year substitution for both is ...

Well, Tortoise is to answer for himself, but personally I consider it fair to count family expenses too. If it was just me, I have already enough of assets generating passive income to declare myself financially free. I even keep my current well paid job (approx. 200K USD/year..) just for pursuing ...

I have always felt that I don't want to see hot money come into the PM market. For long term holders, I think it's more likely to be a bad thing. I don't want gold to fluctuate like Bitcoin, for example. Steady as she goes.

Some people think that graph represents the results of dropping the gold backing of the dollar, and then the Fed's easy money. I tend to agree, especially with the latter. Financial engineering pay very well these days.

I have real life experience in a few. We’ve visited/rented, and owned. Overall they are great because you meet people easily, and everyone is super friendly. If you are happier as a hermit, they are not for you. But nobody much cares what you do or don’t do. They are living their own lives. Just mak...

Well the swamp/Wall Street/government (but I repeat myself) is mounting a counter- offensive today. Can you expand on the government's role? No, but to me it walks, looks, and quacks like a duck. Just look at all of the actions being taken against WSB, all at once. So I don't know if it's a conspir...
