Re: The Top 4 Portfolios to Recession-Proof Your Investments
Cue the Twiglight Zone theme song! Yesterday I heard friend of mine who is a high net worth individual financial advisor (you should see his "yacht!") who was keeping 20% of his assets in cash and advocating that if you can get 3% unrisked you should jump on it. That got me thinking more t...

Re: Epstein
I thought the quote of the day belonged to John McAfee: "I was stunned by Epstein's suicide, though probably not as much as Epstein himself."
One has to wonder (or certainly Ghillaine Maxwell should be wondering) if Maxwell might get "suicided" as well...

Re: 3 years of PP returns
Taylor's portfoliocharts site is an incredibly informative resource for seeing the expected range of performance of the PP and a good many other portfolios after 3 years. For the PP, the historic real CAGRs after 3 yrs is -0.4% minimum, 4.4% median and 11.2% maximum so really anything between a -0.4...

This may be a combination of you-find-what-you’re-looking-for and/or fake news but I found this video more than a bit disturbing.
I’d love better minds than mine give me their opinion.
Thanks!

Carnac The Magnificence's 2019 Predictions
Agnostics aside, over the years it has been fun to see the range of what people think the various assets will perform in the upcoming year.
What %change do you foresee for each of the various PP assets (stocks, bonds, gold, cash) as well as the overall PP?

Actually, since 30% don't plan on having kids and by the time they are 58 their Boomer parents will have died leaving them their house and a sizable inheritance, being worth a million 20 years from now is pretty feasible.

"If you have the bond in your own name and not your kid's, then if you spend the money on their higher education, the interest is tax-free. (There are income limitations on this, unfortunately, and of course the act of cashing out the bonds makes it harder to stay under the limit.)" Would...

Help!... I need somebody... Help!... Not just anybody!
A while back I downloaded an Excel spreadsheet that apparently used macros to grab current Yahoo Finance stock quotes to populate the spreadsheet. It also had some nifty pie charts for allocation %s, etc. The spreadsheet appears to have "protected" the macros as I cannot seem to access the...

Re: Small towns
My daughter lives in Knoxville. It's a pretty quaint little college town (Univ of TN and ORNL) on a beautiful river with good seasons. Cost of living is very inexpensive and there is no state income tax. Don't know about the rural/acreage situation but I suspect it is very reasonable. You are less t...

Off topic (well off media actually) but I just heard about a new fictional book by Lionel Shriver that might be a fun summer read for those of us with a more apocalyptic bent. Here is the top Amazon review: Lionel Shriver's new novel, "The Mandibles: A Family 2029-2047" is captivating, and...
