Re: Fidelity - SHV BIL or TBILL ladder (auto roll)

Everything is now commission-free at Fidelity. But why not use FUMBX which at 0.03% is cheaper than any ETF and you don't have to worry about spreads?

Re: Variable Portfolio?

... I think we can safely conclude small cap outperforms large cap (at least in the last two decades). I don't think we can conclude small cap value outperforms small cap. Agreed! SCB includes both growth and value and essentially can be considered as a size play with no focus on value or growth. A...

Re: Variable Portfolio?

I wouldn't come to conclusions regarding any investment's long-term performance based on such a short period of time (5 years). Looking at a longer period we can see how SCV outperformed after the dot-com bust and the Great Recession. https://i.postimg.cc/mkwd103g/Untitled.png Value and size factors...

Re: Variable Portfolio?

If I guessed right, you refer to the classic 4x25 HBPP when you say "100% PP". I use GB as my PP and also have a small VP. As others suggested, this section has some good threads on VP. I think most people here have some kind of VP. Harry Browne was smart to mention VP in his book. It's better to l...

Total return comparison in Morningstar

Morningstar website UI and functionality changed and I've just realized that their advanced comparison chart no longer shows total growth for ETFs, only for mutual funds. Bummer! For example, here's how TLT lines looks like when dividends are no longer included (note that the chart type is Growth!) ...

Low volatility

Factor-based investing is en vogue and some factors, such as size and value, have been around for quite some time, while others like momentum are fairly new. I do use momentum in a slice of my VP and am comfortable with it as I understand how it works and what the pros and cons are. I'm seeing lots ...

Re: What Do You Do For Work?

Another techie here. ;) After many years in software development I moved into information security (more specifically, application security) a decade ago and I've never regretted my decision. This is still a niche area and demand is growing exponentially as these days every company is a software com...

Re: What is your current portfolio?

I started PP in 2010, first it was all in PRPFX, then I moved to the classic PP, but eventually ended up with with a modified cashless version of GB:

25% FZROX
15% IJR
5% SCZ
5% DGS
30% FNBGX + individual LTTs
20% SGOL

Re: Stock and ETF brokerage costs plunge

Now what you can do at Fido is 'exchange' one mutual fund for another simultaneously and automatically always at the close. SInce they now have several ZERO expense ratio funds and plenty of super-low ER ones as well, maybe that would work better for you? Yes, this is a neat feature at Fido. Just n...

Limited margin---------- Allows you to trade on unsettled funds and trade without triggering trading restrictions, such as good faith violations, in an IRA1 From my experience FIdelity allows trading with unsettled funds in regu...

Re: FNBGX vs. individual bonds at Fidelity

The only drawback is that you can only take part in auction 1x per month for 30 year treasuries at the moment. It looks like the next round is April 4th. But you can also purchase 30 treasuries via trade any day. I was curious: how efficient/liquid is the Treasuries market? Do I need to worry about...

Re: FNBGX vs. individual bonds at Fidelity

What would really be nice at Fidelity, would be a treasury money market with less than a .4% fee :o Yeah, Fidelity's MM fund ERs are high. I'm currently using FDLXX (Treasury only MM) in both taxable and HSA (and for California my HSA account is taxable >:( ). The yield is comparable to Ally's 2.20...

FNBGX vs. individual bonds at Fidelity

I didn't want to inject my newbie questions into the great thread about purchasing bonds at Fidelity started by pmward. I need to invest a 5-figure chunk of money I recently transferred from TDA to my new shiny Fidelity HSA account. My goal is to buy LTTs and my first thought was to go with FNBGX, w...

Re: The Lively HSA

Wow, this is important to look into. A quick check of the website reveals two things: 1) there's a fee of $12/quarter and not clear whether this applies to individual accounts, The fee only applies to employer-sponsored accounts: If you have a Fidelity HSA through your employer , your account may b...

Re: The Lively HSA

Is there any particular reason for the wait? Lively charges $25 closing fee if the account was opened less than a year ago. Interesting, thanks for the heads up. That is not listed in their fee schedule as far as I could tell. I guess I will have to wait until April as well. If you go to Documents ...

It's important to remember that, like with IRAs, one can have multiple HSA accounts. I consider my Lively HSA as my "main" account and I only use the employer-provided HSA as a temporary location to move payroll contributions in a tax-friendly manner. The money in the employer account usually earns ...

Re: The Lively HSA

It's a small firm I'm going to, and I can talk to the owner about it, I'm sure he wants to get wealthier also. Sophie is right, I came to the same conclusions over and over again. I'm in a small firm as well and they even asked me to do a presentation on HSAs since I was the only one with a substan...
