Re: Reasons why I will not be getting injected for the Wuhan
It is like when our knucklehead president said stop all the testing and we will have less cases ...ha ha Trump took a lot of heat for that quote but isn't there a point to be made on that? Prior to Covid, if people woke up in the morning and felt flu-like symptoms, what did they do? They most likel...

Re: Graphs and thoughts from HappyMan
The last month is a good example of why it may be prudent to skip market cap weighted stocks in favor of equal weighted. The major indexes are all slightly down while the equal weight 500 and midcap are up 2%. The total market indexes are so dominated by a few tech names that their potential to unde...

Re: Worthwhile paper on current Treasury bond situation
I listened to a podcast this weekend (I’ve forgotten which one it was offhand) that talked about this. The money manager on that show indicated that with each passing “crisis” and subsequent interest rate reduction, bonds are going to be less and less able to cushion the losses from stocks. His feel...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
When I walked into the store yesterday, the guy in front of me had a bandana tied around his neck, but it wasn’t covering his face. A store employee who was greeting customers as they entered reminded the guy that masks were required, so the guy said, “Oh, sorry” and pulled the bandana up over his ...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
Maybe their wives are mask-people and they didn't want to get into it with them there. We have to start making fun of mask people or at least looking at them like they're weird. That is ultimately the issue. Pro-maskers have gotten the upper hand and it seems like society has decided that its bette...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
As I've said before, coronavirus will end when the bravest among us refuse to wear masks and summon the courage to laugh and ridicule those that do. Before coronavirus there was a large segment of the population that would have preferred to wear a mask but were afraid of ridicule. They need to retu...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
I was against masks at first because I think that in general if I am going to be ordered to do or wear something then the burden of proof needs to be high on the part of the people requesting that I do it. And to me that wasnt there. However, as I think I mentioned before, I will fully admit that on...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
there is that Danish prospective study that the noted bona fide public health authorities really hate, because it indeed says there is no difference :-). Interesting. We endlessly debate lockdowns, the vaccines and masks. For me, masks are the weirdest one. Lockdowns hurt business, mental health an...

Re: David Rosenberg: Long Treasuries Are Still The Safest Asset Around
But like I said odds are odds ....we have had really few prolonged ones .. By the way ,so far 100% equities in retirement has done almost the same as 50/50 simply because the higher balances in up markets cushion spending in the down To me that is one of the strongest arguments towards a 100% stock...

so much angst Mainly from our daytraders, though, right? There's no ulcer poll, but I think a lot of us feel fine. Agreed. But mj is really good at making me question all my decisions! The issue I deal with is that TLT is down 10% over the last 12 months and is up only 6% in the last 5 years. That ...

Re: Best fund/ETF for equities portion of Permanent Portfolio?
I went a different way then most. I went with VXF which is a mid-small cap ETF. It is essentially all the stocks minus the S&P 500. I think that gets me a better cover of the US economy without being concentrated in a handful of top stocks.

Re: Does anyone om know anyone that is even sick?
People need to follow the (legal) rules of any business they patronize. If they don't like the rules, they should go elsewhere. The question is why are they still requiring masks if the state lifted the order? Pretty much every business has decided to stay with masks, making the mandate lift meanin...

Re: Does anyone om know anyone that is even sick?
The fun will be when those not vaccinated want to go to all the places vaccinated people go and do all the things they do and all those unvaccinated people that go make each other good and sick ... I think you miss that the deliberately unvaccinated understand and accept this risk. Well, that would...

Re: Which US State Will Be Last to Fully Reopen?
I voted California but Newsome’s recall makes it less likely to me. He recently re-opened Disneyland and I attribute that to taking the heat off of himself a bit. I think he may reopen quicker than anticipated to stop the backlash.

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
So is this just me or is the CDC completely out of touch with reality? Believe it or not, many Americans still hang on every word out of the mouths of our federal health authorities. The other day I came across the Twitter account of someone I knew back in college. She's a writing lecturer at a pro...

What return do you expect for the PP going forward?
I have a hypothetical question: If a bank offered you a 20 year FDIC insured cd but you had to move all of your PP money into it for those 20 years, at what cd rate would you think about doing that? 5%? 10%? Or would you not do it under any circumstances? I guess your answer sort of depends upon you...

Re: Golden butterfly fifth asset
I have sort of gone in a different direction. For the core stock application of the GB I do Mid and Small Cap stocks using ETF VXF which is essentially everything not in the S&P 500. Then for the additional 20% of the GB I did individual dividend stocks that I choose. Things that I really don't ...

Re: TLT vs EDV vs ZROZ
I've used EDV for the past 8 years for all my long bonds. Keep in mind EDV is about 50% more volatile than TLT so you need less of it to balance out your stock holdings. Craig, Tex and others have discussed before so review the older posts in the bond section. Can you explain why the volatility nee...
