Re: New Gold Product from the Royal Mint

I like the idea. There are some questions I could not find about rmg. Where are they making money to pay the cost of storage if there are no fees.? Can anyone obtain the RMG or would you have to be registered with them? I am wondering if this could allow capital flight from anywhere in the world. I ...

Thanks for sharing.

I hate gold and I feel like that is the general sentiment so hopefully it takes off soon.

Re: Gold is Losing Buyers to Bitcoin

Don't forget to claim your capital gains on Bitcoin sales. Especially if it is through coinbase. I expect they will get audited if they haven't already.

Re: Gold is Losing Buyers to Bitcoin

I believe Bitcoin is taking more buyers from the stock market and is increasing because of prosperity instead of being a safe haven. I have seen reports on the internet of people taking out mortgages or selling their houses to buy more Bitcoin. and it is back above $7000 again now. I think I saw it ...

Re: EU-PP whilst buying a house.

I go a long with the idea that a mortgage is a negative bond. The mortgage would out balance your cash/bonds leaving you only holding stocks, gold and real estate leveraged through your mortgage loan. Plus the cash/bonds you do have would be decayed away by the difference in the rate you are earning...

Re: New I Bond Rate 11/1/17 - 4/30/18

I bonds and EE bonds have always been free from state and local income taxes. There is no cap. Sorry to be getting a little off topic of the I bonds but the 529 Plan Income Tax deduction is tax saved on the contribution amount. The I bonds and EE bonds do not give you a tax deduction for buying the...

Re: New I Bond Rate 11/1/17 - 4/30/18

I am currently also only doing I bonds and EE bonds for possible college savings but there is another advantage my state has for 529 plans. You can deduct up to $4000 each year per married couple for your state income which I think could come out to about ~6% instant gain for that year you use deduc...

Re: Gold is Losing Buyers to Bitcoin

I am no doubt envious of people's gains from bitcoin and continue to watch the price climb from the sidelines.

I still just cannot take it seriously. It still feels like a ponzi scheme and if I was king I would prosecute promoters as such.

Very close to $5000 a bitcoin. Insanity.

The thing I think about when comparing bitcoin to gold:

Would you rather own all the gold in the world or all the bitcoin in the world?

Some of the trouble for PERM must be the Stock allocation:

Stocks:
•        U.S. Large Cap Stocks 9%
•        U.S. Small Cap Stocks 3%
•        International Stocks 3%
•        U.S. Real Estate Stocks 5%
•        U.S. and Foreign Natural Resource Stocks 5%

Re: 5 year ladder vs Cash and 30 year barbell

To make it simple...is $700 annually worth it to pay Vanguard (VGSH) to manage a $100k portfolio of STTs...a good simple clarifying question. Would that not be $70 a year? Expense ratio of VGSH is 0.07 % 7% would be $7,000 0.7% would be $700 0.07% would be $70 $70 probably a good deal. I am not sur...

I have never had the pleasure of receiving RSUs so I can't speak personally but it sounds like an immediate sell as soon as it is an option. Here is an article talking about the psychology of what stops people from selling them when they really should. https://blog.wealthfront.com/manage-vested-rsus/

Do you know yet if your mortgage will be a recourse mortgage? I am a new recourse mortgage borrower and was thinking I would use it as a lever but changed my mind once in it. I felt the effect of realizing the mortgage is a negative bond and increased bond/cash holdings to counter it. https://www.bo...
