Wow! A post from Craig. This is better than the time Satoshi Nakamoto emailed me!
Re: ee bonds
I am a big fan of EE bonds for the reasons you mention.
Just remember that you can only buy $10K a year.
Also a good idea to have some T-bills prior to using EE bonds so that you can rebalance or use for emergencies.

Has anyone watched this series? 12 part documentary by Oliver Stone. I am in the middle of it and curious to hear opinions.

I am perfectly happy with the PP's performance.
I'm just curious as to what people think is motivating the trends in the various asset classes post election.

All of those drops boil down to a 2-3% drop for the portfolio. Are you really that stressed?

I just think it's odd that the two "flight to safety" assets are taking losses instead of the stock market, given the uncertainty.

PP and the Election
It is interesting to me that gold and treasury bonds have responded the most dramatically to the election results.

Re: PRPFX -6.58% YTD, 4x4 +6.69% YTD
The thing is a lot of the financial sites like googlefinance.com don't take into account the end of year distribution. So what happens is shareholders get a payout, and then the price of the fund drops. If you re-invest the payout, you'll own more shares of PRPFX, but at a lower price. If you look a...

Re: Perth Mint Online Depository Program
Yeah, but no one with a brain would use unallocated storage except as a temporary parking place. I'm not sure I agree. I think either you trust the mint or you don't. If they're not honest enough to honor the unallocated storage, then why would anyone expect them to honor the allocated storage?

Good discussion here. http://gyroscopicinvesting.com/forum/gold/perth-mint/ There are a lot of good posts by the user named Bronsuchecki. He works there, I think. Isn't that discussion with regards to the certificate program which had a 10k minimum? I believe this new one doesn't have this require...

I have dealt with physicians in a surprising number of settings, and the one thing that I can always count on is an attitude of: "I know. I got it.", even when it was clear that they hadn't gotten it yet. When you are trying to provide professional services to these people it can be mad...

So is it any surprise that adding a lot more stress is not working out too well? It's not too surprising, MT, that two doctors of your acquaintenance have exited stage right in the past two years. Sadly that trend will continue. And yes, maybe it is the nicer/sensitive people who are less likely...

Re: Time to buy CEF?
Thoughts? I think it's a reasonable thing to do, as long you're comfortable with the tracking error you'll get as compared to a PP holding only gold, and especially if it's with only a fraction of your gold allocation. I am thinking about doing it myself. I trust CEF more than I do GLD, SGOL, IAU,...

And CEF, but that has a lot of silver too. Actually not a bad idea, though, especially if you don't hold a high percentage of your overall gold allocation in an ETF or close-ended fund. I just like these Canadian funds better. They are more transparent and less susceptible to Wall Street shenanig...
