Re: Yearly balancing or 15/35?

I've been checking monthly only because I got into the habit of tracking expenses and finances on a monthly basis. It's fun for tracking purposes, but checking asset proportions that often is like watching paint dry. Rebalance events happen every 2-3 years, more or less depending on how you're hand...

Re: European PP

Shaymor I have been running a European PP for a while, also in France. I cannot say the results are good this year. For example, year to date: 1. My PP. This contains individual French blue chips and a DAX ETF: -1.3%. A paper four-ETF PP of CEU, MTH, GBS and C13 (similar to yours) which I follow fo...

Re: European PP, update 6 months after starting

Do you admit to change from EUPP to USPP in function of these true results? Hope I understand you correctly. As a european I would definitely not use a USPP portfolio, I use and will continue to use a strict EUPP. The reason why I am deep diving into US funds now is that in US there are so much mor...

Re: European PP, update 6 months after starting

Hello to you all. I am also an european (dutch) PP user. Many years ago I already wanted to organize myself a simple and failsafe portfolio and Harry Brown's PP was always anywhere back in my head for that. But then again I hate financials and bookkeeping so lost sight of the project. Begin this ye...

Re: European PP, update 6 months after starting

Hi Juandelarocha, -0.5% and 1.8% in a year doesn't mean much and sounds to me like you're focussing too much on short-term results. Both the PP and a more conventional stock-heavy porftfolio can go nowhere for 10 years. 1 year results are meaningless. It also seems you were expecting something diff...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in Europe (follow-up)

In that highly unlikely event, I would lose ~14% of the portfolio (but I'm sure the EU part would grow that much more as a consequence). I don't see any of those two extremes happening. That said, if I would have to bet on likelihood, I'd say it's far higher for the EUR to get devalued against the ...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in Europe (follow-up)

@frugal: I am comfortable with currency risk at 20% in USD, for the benefit of having exposure to US economy. @WhiteElephant: If that's concerning local taxes, we have a fixed capital gains tax on everything so that does not affect me. @stuper1: Thanks, good catch! I've changed that to iShares Trea...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in Europe (follow-up)

Hi everyone, here's my portfolio I'm looking to implement in the coming weeks. I'm in EU, so it's focused on Eurozone, however with 20% of assets in/related to US. I added symbols since I lost a ton of time looking for the right ones. Stocks - xTrackers MSCI EMU, EUR ( XD5E ) - 20% - Vanguard US To...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in Europe (follow-up)

My online savings account still has a positive yield: 0.35%. All short-term euro treasuries have negative yields. The iShares 0-1y euro etf for example has a YTM of -0.5%. So that’s a difference of almost 1 percent. hi is that theortically correct? Can we use CD's instead without more RISK? Thanks ...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in Europe (follow-up)

Small update on my EU-PP. Been invested in the PP for almost a year now and still very happy with it. Made two small changes: I've replaced Lyxor EuroMTS 15y+ (LYXF) with iShares € Govt Bond 20yr Target Duration (E20Y). E20Y uses higher quality bonds (No bonds from Spain/Italy) and has a higher dur...

Re: A multi-asset portfolio in Euros

Frugal - There is a lot of information available on the construction of dividend portfolios and I don't claim to be an expert. One thing I would say is that it is much easier to construct a dividend portfolio of US shares than of Euro shares, as there is a far better choice of dividend-paying share...

Re: A multi-asset portfolio in Euros

Frugal To answer the questions: 1.Relative performance of Eu and US PPs. You can look this up yourself by comparing simple 4 -ETF portfolios, or comparing published results such as Marc de Mesel's EU results with US results. Portfoliocharts.com has similar average performances for US and German PPs...
