Re: A first-hand account of Senegalese culture

Surely Senegalese culture is like that only because of systematic oppression by white Westerners... right?

Re: Tortoise's baby

Many thanks, everyone! I really appreciate it.

Pugs, didn't you say a while back that you're anticipating a new arrival fairly soon, too?

Re: Johnny Depp left broke after losing $650m movie fortune

In case any of you haven't read the Rolling Stone article from 2018 about Johnny Depp's trials and tribulations, it's definitely worth checking out: The Trouble With Johnny Depp There are a few things Depp insists TMG got wrong – for example, the $30,000 a month the Mandels claimed he spent on wine....

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

How has The Patriot Act affected your day-to-day life? After 9/11 everything was supposed to have different, to have changed, In the summer of 2002 I was on subway cars in New York City with police in them carrying heavy duty semi-automatic rifles. By the summer of 2003 the presence of the police w...

In California, the Orange County Board of Education voted this week to reopen its schools for in-person attendance, but Emperor Newsom overruled their decision today and mandated that those schools (as well as all other schools in counties on his "watch list") must remain online-only this ...

Re: Poll for Trump Supporters Only

Should the poll have a third option: When asked for whom I will vote, I have avoided the question by say artfully changing the subject. I would consider that not lying. Both in the technical sense, and also in the sense that most people probably sense that if you duck the question, you plan to vote...

Re: Poll for Trump Supporters Only

I never comment on politics unless I am 100% sure the other person has very similar views. I want to keep my friends. And family! I've lied to my own liberal wife and most of her liberal family, all of my liberal coworkers, and many liberal acquaintances about my support of Trump. My typical lie is...

So Amazon has decided to jump on the censorship bandwagon too, huh?

I wonder why the "Item Under Review" notification only shows up for the Kindle version and not the hardback or paperback versions. They all have the same content, don't they?

Poll for Trump Supporters Only

Note that this poll should only be taken by people who plan to vote for Trump in November. Scott Adams took a similar poll among his followers recently, and I think he said a large percentage of them (something like 40%) said they had lied at least once about supporting Trump -- presumably to avoid ...

Re: Johnny Depp left broke after losing $650m movie fortune

At first I was confused as to why you were linking a picture to some random guy in this thread. Then I was like "holy shit". Yup, it's Depp! I thought the arm tats would give it away, but I probably should have been a bit more obvious. The sad thing about that photo is that it was taken b...

Re: Dr. Fauci today!

Personally I don't know who to believe any longer. Maybe Fauci is right. Maybe he is wrong and lying, or wrong and not lying but just very cautious. Although to be so cautious on health, when there is countervailing evidence say from the cruise ship situation, and not to look at the entire situatio...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

For what it’s worth, I personally know a few teachers, and all of them put in many more hours (including during summer “vacation”) than what they officially get paid for. One of them used to be a nurse, and she told me nursing was less stressful. It sounds like hard work — at least for the teachers ...

The Knuckleheads are anti-LTT as well? Huh. What’s their main reason — because a diversified total bond market fund is supposedly safer, or because Treasury bonds tend to have the lowest yield?

Could there be a way of de-activating this "feature"? That would probably require an admin modification by Xan. The workaround I use is to always click "Preview" before "Submit". That way the new-post warning (if any) shows up on the preview screen and doesn't interfer...

You know how the media and Emperor Newsom have been saying that California's Lockdown 2.0 is a response to the state "reopening too soon"? I.e., California supposedly screwed up by reopening too soon, and there's been a big spike in cases as a result? Well, I decided to look at the "T...

What a disappointment. Easily [Schiff's] worst interview on JRE. Don't get me wrong, he had great insights as always. He just never bloody took a breath. The stuff that drives me crazy is that I have to put on a mask to go into a restaurant and then walk 20 feet to my table, Then I can take it off. I would love for an expert to calculate for me the chances of catching or spreading a virus in that 20 foot walk. Especially when the restaurant is runni...
