So I have: Couch...

I think most of what "happens in the beltway" stays in "the beltway." Most people probably don't care, the ones that live in DC do care.

I sleep on a J-life futon on a platform bed, it's great. I can sleep 'ok' on soft beds, but the futon is really where it's at.

Why do you think it wasn't as hard for you when the portfolio was under-performing relative to gold and bonds at various points in recent years? What is it about under-performance relative to stocks that is especially unsettling? Note that at least one of the PP assets will always be outperforming ...

I just use the TSM and TISM funds, since the expense ratio is lower than TW, as my VP. Eventually, I'd like to get into real estate (not an REIT, but actual land/buildings).

Re: Oh how it hurts to see no gains
Vanguard Total World stock index expense ratio is 0.19%.
Total US is 0.05%, and Total Int'l is 0.16%.
Is there some advantage to the Total World fund that I'm not seeing?

That's the one I'm using to get the gold spot price, just for a consistent measure across the different coins/dealers one might use. It wasn't working for a while so I thought I broke the internet, but it's working now.

But do the gold bars have the lowest spread? From what I've seen, the American Eagles and the Krugerrands have the lowest spread, so you pay less of a premium between your buy and sell points. Also, the coins are harder to counterfeit than a bar. Are you saying the premium to buy or sell isn't on...
