Re: Fleeing the Blue States

Pug, Why are you still in Illinois? Is it strictly for work? If so, will you leave when you retire? Found this online for a state by state breakdown: https://wallethub.com/edu/best-worst-states-to-be-a-taxpayer/2416 Wife and I are in ultra-taxy Connecticut but can't realistically leave until she sto...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Is there a Hal post about the Australian PM’s turnaround that someone can link me to, or do I have to slog through many pages of this thread? Here is a link to a segment that Dr. John Campbell did on this from 12/22: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVl5OkHcvf4 Campbell's daily summaries have been m...

What I do since I use gbtc which is so volatile I want a certain amount of money in it . So let’s say I want 200k in it …anytime it hits 210k I shuttle 10k off into my core portfolio..if it falls 10k I will add cash to buy more and get it back to 200k You are doing this in a tax-advantaged account,...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion

Well it's a tense day in the household. We only shared Christmas with two adults and their baby, and one of the two came down sick yesterday. And tested positive today with an at home test. Oh boy, again. My wife is on the phone trying to locate at home rapid tests for us, so we can have them on ha...

Re: PP in Company IRA m - no long term bond?

looks good i think i would do something like 25 stock 25% intermediate bonds 25% cash. 25 gold (elsewhere) i feel cash allocation is needed for rebalancing of dip opportunities. So basically 33% of stocks, intermediate bonds and cash in the 401(k), right? I do wonder if that much cash is necessary ...

Your body needs time to process the vitamin d. That part I did not know. I also started taking Vitamin D a couple of weeks ago because of Dr. John Campbell. Have not done Zinc yet but will pick some up today. Campbell's daily updates give me most of the info I need to know on this virus though I re...

Today is a sacred day for the rest of us. And I got a lot of problems with you people! Start your pushups. The annual airing of the grievances! Just dusting off the old pole (I still find that the Christmas tree stand is the best way to keep it upright. Adding water is optional). Happy Festivus eve...

Vil, Thanks for sharing what is going on in Bulgaria. I have a soft spot for your country as I had such pleasant travels there almost 20 years ago. I guess the only silver lining is that a lot of people must have quite high levels of natural immunity through infections at this point. I knew two peop...

I'm slowly easing back into more and more intense gym routines. The other day I finally even started running again! Though, it exacerbated my knee pain. I think the trick is to find a similar exercise that doesn't aggravate whatever your weak points are. For example, I realized about three years ag...

The ten year bond behaves differently then the barbel does .
But seejay was writing about a STT/LTT barbell with the LTTs being 20-year bonds. At least that is my understanding.

Yes, Cortopassi. You are a silver-hoarding nut job! O0

I am curious if you hold silver in tax-advantaged accounts as well as taxable. If it's all in taxable, will your January re-balance have negative tax repercussions? You will presumably be selling stocks, right?

But why? Gold isn’t doing anything for you. But it is. Peace of mind. I don't have to have the top % return in investing. Your peace of mind is a false sense of security and built on quicksand. There is nothing special at all about the PP and it has proven once more this year that Gold is a useless...

Re: The GOLD scream room

It's disappointing, to be sure. Even stranger to me though is seeing the yield on the 30-year treasury hovering around 1.8%. That would seem to indicate that investors still don't see inflation lasting for a prolonged period when pretty much everyone who is talking about it has dropped the term "tra...

Fourth, when has a diversified portfolio of equities EVER gone down in real inflation-adjusted value value over 15 or 16 years? This actually was the case from 1966 to 1981 (inclusive) using S&P 500 data. So that is a 16-year period with negative real returns. Source: https://www.officialdata.org/u...

Gold is still garbage. But Budd, the reason that you don't just sell your remaining gold is that your gains on it are large enough for taxes to be a consideration, right? I would say that historically gold has been garbage for a decade or two when financial assets are performing well, and a great d...
